Miss Lamb's Picture
Miss Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Miss Lamb

Our Save-the-Dates went out in the mail the week we bought our house. This was a huge relief, as we had been putting it off due to the venue uncertainties. Originally we had wanted to give people 8 months of notice since our date is around the Christmas holiday. The little beauts got out just a tad under 6 months out.

I hemmed and hawed about these bad boys. First, I was set on Bucknell Save-the-Dates. I wanted them to boast of the percentage of Bucknellians that marry of other Bucknellians, set against a picture of Rooke Chapel and embellished with mini blue and orange striped envelopes hiding library stamped dates. We couldn’t get the layout right though, and I wasn’t convincing very many people that my vision was going to materialize into the epitome of coolness. Second, I narrowed it down to 3 pre-made postcards or magnets. Third, the Lambster and I asked Mother Ewe which one she liked, and then we took the dive and ordered.

Behold!

This is the lovingly hand addressed front of the Save-the-Date that was sent to me. Mother Ewe and Grandmother Ewe assembled them all while I was off buying a house and eating cheese at my roommate’s WI wedding shindig. I was so excited to get this cutie patootie in the mail. I couldn’t open her though until I made the drive to Durham, where J-Ram had the camera. I was so excited to finally open her that I didn’t realize there was so much craziness going on in the picture until I was editing the photo for the blog:

Right… anyways, I learned an important lesson: If your mom spends all the time hand canceling the envelopes, you should probably address them lower and remind the Post Office not to send them through the machine… and the biggest lesson of all—don’t sweat it! No one noticed. :)

On to the back of the envelope! Mother Ewe bought a lovely embosser with the Lamb-rents address on it. She embossed the back of each envelope. The envelopes were smaller than we thought they were going to be, and when they ran through the mail machine, they got a little dirty. But again, no one has noticed. Or if they have, they’ve been kind enough not to say anything.

Now we’re getting to the good part! The Save-the-Date magnet!!!!! Yes, we went with the magnet, and yes that is white paint on my thumbnail… and yes, I’m heavy handed with the privacy paint.

STD401

We ordered the magnet itself, a glassine envelope to protect the magnet, the postcard with pre-sliced holes to hold the magnet, and the envelopes. Here’s a picture of how the magnet hooked into the holder.

STD5

Here’s a detail shot of the glassine envelope as I open it.

And one last one of the just the magnet:

STD6

I’m so grateful to my family for pinch hitting this mailing for me. They truly blessed me by allowing me to focus on the house.

Have you been able to delegate a chunk of planning to anyone?

LOL @ “Mother Ewe”! And very cute that you used the pic in which you’re gazing (grazing?) ;-) up adoringly at your Lamb Lovah.

You went to Bucknell!?!?! Me too!!!!! What a small world. The postcard would have been nice, but those outside of the Bucknell bubble may not have understood the incredibly high marriage rate amongst Bucknellians!

After hand canceling ALL our invitations I stayed and watched the guy put out invites in the DO NOT run through the machine basket. I had nightmares of them going through the machine too :-/ Anywho… I love your magnets :) Especially the pic you chose :)

Very cute magnets! They turned out awesome, and I bet it’s nice to have them all out. I already feel so relieved having 90% of mine out in the mail. Now I just have to finish up the rest.

@Mrs. Bruschetta: Hahaha, she’s started to sign her emails, “Ewe Mother” which I think is the nickname that will stick. :)
@tea: It’s a number that routinely gets inflated, but I called the Office of Alumni Relations and was told that 26% of Bucknellians self-report being married to other Bucknellians. 1 in 4! :)

Our hand canceled save the dates definitely snuck through the machine too. I will have to follow Mrs. French Bulldogs lead and watch them next time.

I think it’s sweet, simple and too the point. Great job! I can’t wait until we get our engagement pictures back so we can finally send ours out. We’re just under 8 months out…

Cute magnet ^_^

Hand canceling doesn’t prevent the envelope from going through all the post office machines, just the one that cancels the stamps. So I don’t think the squiggly one at the top should be there, but I think the barcode at the bottom will be there and it will still go through the sorting machines unless you pay extra postage for non-machinable mail(square envelopes, really rigid envelopes, etc require this).

That was so nice of Mother Ewe! (And seriously, cutest name ever!) And those turned out great!

It makes me laugh that you got something in the mail to save the specific date…I think you might be busy that day!

So cute! I hand cancelled our invitations (including my parents) which came to our house looking like it had gone through the oldest machine that ate it up… who knows how many others did too.

So make sure you mention it to the post office when you do those too!!
