About Mrs. Lamb

Stalled

October 5th, 2009 @ 4:56 pm by Mrs. Lamb

Hi, My name is Miss Lamb and I have a DIY problem.

Though others pointed it out to me before, I didn’t realize I had a problem until I recognized myself in this article about the stages of a DIY project.

I was in between Phase 5 and 6 on my handmade fabric bridesmaids’ pomanders and bouts. I was so psyched when I was buying the materials. I committed and began to tie them together, cut the fabric, and tested swatches on my machine. Then they weren’t going as quickly as I thought, and I ran out of the little flower for the bouts that I liked.

With graduations and family vacation in May, I just flat out stalled on the project. I had no motivation. The wedding seemed so far away. We didn’t even have a venue. Why bother???

Then, I made about twice as many flowers for the prototype pomander, and finished 5 bouts. I started to believe in the project again!

Since I experienced phase 6 with the pomanders and bouts, I’ve gone through the cycle about 164,549 times with other projects. I believe I’m actually in each of the stages with different projects right now. Talk about the United States of Lamby (BTW, anyone following Toni Collette’s show over on Showtime?).

Does anyone else have a DIY problem? What phase are you in with your projects?

Your pomander and bouts are gorgeous!!! I’m definitely in a couple different phases right now between all of my projects.

Great job on the bouts and pomanders! I read that article and found it oh so true with the DIY projects I’ve been through so far.

I am totally the same way! I get excited about the idea, rush to buy the stuff, start on it, and either love it and think “this is easy, I’ll finish in no time” and push it aside or hate the result and say “whatever, I’ll find a way to fix it later” and it collects dust!

I am in the “totally paralyzed with fear that i won’t get everything done in time but can’t get moving either” stage.

I’m sure I’m in each stage on many different projects, but I love your bouts.

LOVE the bouts! Too cute! I have a hard time getting the motivation to actually get started whenever I start a DIY!

I can relate to the DIY phases. I have no idea which phase I’m in, I think it depends which project you’re talking about. I have several problems:

1. I’ll admit I’m a control freak and have a hard time asking for help, which means I’ve been tackling all DIY solo! It’s not that I don’t want help, but I feel bad asking anyone to participate in my crazy projects.

2. I want all of our guests to be in awww the first time they see our STDs, invites, and the actual wedding. I think that if people help with the projects it will take away some of the “magic.”

3. 3 of my 5 attendants live in different cities and the firends that want to help aren’t in the wedding (I feel guilty).

4. MIL is out of state and my mom is “in her own world.”

5. I have sooooo many ideas = sooooo many DIY projects.

6. FI is not interested in tedious tasks

Whats is a girl to do? I guess I have to push through the DIY regardless of the phase. Wish me luck!

Those look so great! I consistently start something, then stop doing it … or have this great project idea, get all of the supplies, and get “too busy” to actually put it to work!

Wow your bouts look sooo good! I really wish I was crafty, but alas, I am not. I always think I can do it, then I start and well, let’s just say the ending is not always pretty.
