Color Me Confused!

October 6th, 2009 @ 3:02 pm by Miss French Fries

So, like many things in planning our wedding, our wedding colors have changed several times so far in this process. We’re still a good bit of time out, so it’s not like any firm decisions (like buying bridesmaids’ dresses) have been made. I’ve considered pink & black, then various shades of pink, to purple and green, to pink and purple and blue, as well as a myriad of other options that I can’t even remember.

They say that painters have muses, from which they gather inspiration and ideas for their paintings. This past spring, during the yearly “Martha Stewart Wedding Show” (say what you will about Martha, but she does have some cool ideas) their set was draped with amazing, lush swags of baby’s breath. ‘Hmm,’ I thought. ‘Those look pretty cool.’ Last weekend in CA, we stayed with the Mr.’s cousin at their amazing house in the hills. Everything about their backyard garden was perfect. So perfect, in fact, they have actually hosted a wedding back there. While this wasn’t an option for us (deposits have been paid, people!), I couldn’t get the image of their backyard out of my mind.

When I returned home, I further debated our current color scheme (quickly becoming a pastime of mine). I didn’t know if the bold, jewel tones that we were considering was really the best option. I wanted something simple, elegant, and laid-back. And I wanted it to be fun. Suddenly the image of the backyard in CA flashed into my mind.

One color scheme that we seriously considered was black, crisp white, and apple green.

Seriously. How amazing are those apple centerpieces? And the wheatgrass? Love. It was like fate was pushing me in the direction of apple green, because soon after I found that inspiration board, Style Me Pretty featured a — FREE! — printable .pdf of these super-cute treat boxes for receptions. How perfect would these be for guests to take home a little treat at the end of the night?

It seemed as though I could have found my muse… but could it hold my attention long enough for me to commit?

How many different color scheme options did you go through before finding your “one”?

Oh at least a half a dozen!!! I now have 3 different color schemes that all share green in common!!! Green and blue for our welcome dinner, pink and green for the ceremony and green and rust for our reception! We basically are having 3 seperate events which we love!!

I love the green inspirations!

I’ve always known I’d have pink & green . . . the question has just been which shades!

I like the apple green! : ) And I love the idea of fruit in centerpieces, which apple green practically begs for!

Oh my goodness, I went through a ton of color schemes. Originally we were going to get married in Nov (would’ve been next month) and I wanted to do deep plums and jewel tones. Then it got pushed back to May 2010, and I wanted fuschia, fuschia, fuschia, Then I changed my mind to incorporate blush pink. Then, wanted to add creams. Now I’m thinking of telling my florist less fuschia, and more creams and blush pinks. I’ll wait til we get closer to the date so I don’t drive her crazy! It hasn’t only been colors though, everything from BM dresses, favor boxes, favors, invitations, ETC.

My advice- look for inspiration and go with what you LOOOOVE the most, but also keep your venue in mind and what would look best there. :)

I’ve gone through a ton of different schemes too, including white, black and green. Check out Mrs. Pom’s wedding to see her black, white and green wedding. http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/06/06/another-damask-bride/

So pretty! I always find myself that a subtle pop of red would look great with these colors — just not too much, so it starts looking Christmas-y :-)

My colors have changed a zillion times. I’m shocked at how much time I’ve spent obsessing about the colors. Seriously ridiculous! Can’t wait to hear what you finally decide on!

I knew the main color from day one (the same sage green as the vintage car we’d use for wedding day transportation). The accent colors changed a lot. At first I wanted grey, then pink, then just white. I ended up using ivory to go with my sage. There were very small purple and pink accents in flowers and decor.

That was literally my inspiration board from Snippet for my first go around! I LOVE IT but couldn’t committ. I went for a soft sage, pale peachy-pinks and shades of cream. Love the vintage feel and the romance.

Oh Man…..too many times to count…..I sent out weekly or bi-weekly emails to my bridesmaids, letting them know the colors…which dresses they can pick from….that they should go buy them soon….and then change my mind….again and again!

So what did we finally decide! To have a SMALL wedding in Nov, instead of the big wedding next July….and we aren’t even having a wedding party! I tell ya…planning was fun and worth it…..but I could only handle it for 5 months. ;) It was my max. So I got the best of both worlds….planning for the big wedding and having the small, intimate wedding. :)

Definitely a great color combo! I’m pretty set on a combo right now … but with over a year to go - I can only imagine how it may just change …

I had nearly a million different color combos. I literally had paint chips all over our kitchen table, mixing and matching (which I HIGHLY recommend!)

If you are still thinking about black, white and green (which is stunning) check out this board we did for a little more inspiration!

Oh my gosh, I went through so many color schemes before settling on mine! In the end, I ended up going with more of an overall feel than a strict color scheme.
The apple green is really fun–can’t wait to see if you stuck with it or chose something else!

a good friend of mine had this exact color scheme it’s classy organic and fun! great choice.

My color scheme came quickly and easily, btu I know it’s not that way for most people. I suppose I had my doubts along the way too thought!

It;s funny, I’m not much for green but this colour inspiration pops so nicely. It really looks fresh, bright, sprinly and clean. i love the black and white tablecloth the favor boxes are sitting on.

I love the black, white and green!!!!! We thought about using it for a super long time, when we finally reached the (somewhat painful) decision that it would look sort of terrible in the ballroom where the wedding is being held. Sigh.

The colors (powder blue & chocolate brown) are the only decision we haven’t changed our mind on!

I’m having so much fun with colors right now! They totally set the mood for your wedding, which means oh the pressure is on but your proposed scheme is so fresh and lively!

So far my color scheme has changed about 5 times. Not complete overhauls, but more like… morphs?

Only one color scheme…but it took some time to convince the FI to go along with White, Green, & orange (think Pikake, Maile, & Ilima lei), but now he likes just as much as I do!

Ours didn’t drastically change, but I must have gone through 15 shades of blue and yellow before I found Navy and Marigold :)

@Mrs. Bruschetta: That was my exact first color scheme, but Mr Frenchie thought it looked too Christmas-y :-/ It ended up being a good thing thought b/c there was already so much green at our venue :)

That snippet & ink board is my main inspiration board :) FI and I knew right away we wanted a b&w wedding, it was just a matter of finding the right accent color. We debated between apple green and baby blue - apple green won!

We started out with black and white, but couldn’t determine what color I wanted for an accent color. Like a few people here, I also chose the apple green! so, i obviously love it!!
Our venue is decorated almost exclusively in white, so whe thought the green would make it pop! :-)
