Brainstorming Our Features Icon

October 7th, 2009 @ 5:59 pm by Mrs. Penguin

Hi Hive! You’ll notice our newest Relationship Series is posted under the Beehive icon. We feel like this isn’t the most appropriate icon for when we run series like these, but we don’t have an icon for any of our series like A Bee’s Life or our recent Budget Series. So, we need your help with brainstorming! What should our feature icon look like?

When I think of features, I think of the movies. Perhaps a little bee running an old time movie projector? Or, perhaps a little bee on a pedestal with a microphone would be cute. The possibilities are endless!

Let us know what you think our new feature icon should look like, and we’ll compile your ideas and ask our talented artist Irene to create one for us!

What about a Super Bee? Since the features ‘feature’ all the bees, why not let that bee be super!

Or, maybe a little swarm of bees holding hands or getting together?

It seems like most of the bee features are about topics beyond the wedding or wedding planning, I would think it appropriate to have a Mr. & Mrs. Bee as the icon. :)

Hmm… I like the microphone/pedestal idea. Would it be too much to work in a spotlight? :o)

It’s not a new icon suggestion but perhaps they could be combined with the already existent Bee Spotlight feature?

I like the Bee on a pedestal idea :)

When I think of the word “feature”, I think of a marquee! :) Like one of the old-style theatre ones - and you could either use one word (’Feature’) for all of them, or separate words, like ‘Bee’s Life’ or ‘Budget’.

@CienDragon: We considered using the Bee Spotlight icon, and it would be appropriate for certain series (like A Bee’s Life). But in this relationship series, we really want readers to participate too, so we were thinking of something that was perhaps more indicative of community?

I like the idea of a swarm of bees!

This might be really, really silly, but what about a circle of bees playing “ring around the rosy”? No, just kidding. How about a Brady Brunch-esque quilt with little Bee heads and/ or icons (that sounds morbid, but you get the point)? … I am so lamely not creative.

Two bees facing and looking at each, with a heart above their heads, the bottom tip kind of coming down a little between their heads. Like two little in love bees!

I like Miss Star’s swarm of bees and mrsjamar’s news reporter. Maybe some combination of both? Maybe something with a microphone?

Just thought I’d point out that being an icon in a small space, it is best to depict a simple character/object that represents the concept, rather than drawing multiple things/characters/objects interacting with each other… less is more :)

I love the idea that Miss Star suggests - a swarm of bees!

Maybe several bees on a pedestal? Like a multi-bee trophy?

Very tricky! I liked the idea of having a few bees holding hands, but if less is more, than I’m a little stumped as to how to convey a community feel…hmmm, I’ll do some more thinking!

What about a bee with a calculator…the kind that spills out paper at the top for the budget series.

I like the two bees with a heart over the top for the relationship series.

I think it would be funny…but probably impossible if the bee’s life could somehow be inspired by MTV Diary. You think you know, but you have no idea.
