Hair Affair

October 7th, 2009 @ 11:08 am by Mrs. French Fries

I’ve always known that I’m not a typical bridal tiara kind of girl. I tried a few of them on out of obligation when I was out looking for dresses, but they didn’t really feel like me. They were gorgeous, no doubt, but I really am not a “bling” kind of girl. I thought that maybe I could find some pretty barrettes or a brooch to put in my hair for the wedding, but wasn’t exactly thrilled with either of those ideas, either.

When I received my veil, a single tier cathedral length beauty, I quickly determined that I want my veil to go over my up-do, so that was a start. I just didn’t know if putting something in front of my veil, like a headband, would be too much. Like so many things before, I debated back and forth. And maybe back again, just for good measure. I finally decided that I should look for something to go underneath the veil instead. Something so that if I decide to take off my veil for the reception, will still look “bridal” but not too overdone.

Fortuitously, in the midst of all of my dress drama, Muscari Design was featured on Weddingbee as having a 20% off sale. I had seen a few of their designs, and decided to click over. What I found was amazing, and just like that, I had found my hair accessory for the wedding. Muscari’s flowers were absolutely gorgeous, and fit the bill.

I decided on “sugar bush”, which is described as “an airy and organic classic, with a hint of blush pink”. It couldn’t get more perfect than this, and I was so excited to try it on with my whole bridal ensemble! That is, if I could figure out the whole dress situation…

Unfortunately, Sugar Bush is now sold out, but Muscari has plenty of other beautiful options!

Are you wearing a traditional bridal headpiece, or are you going the hair flower route? Or, are you doing something else completely?

So pretty! I swapped out my ceremony veil (long, long, long) for a hair flower during the latter part of our wedding day.

I wore a vintage broach in my hair (under veil for ceremony) and then it was still a little ‘bridal’ for the reception!

Love the flower! Muscari Designs has such beautiful hair flowers. I ended up wearing two hair flowers I made myself under my veil (which was cathedral length), and just taking out the veil after the ceremony.

I LOVE when brides don’t want to do a traditional veil. Check out some of these pieces that are super chic and pretty. Very similar to that hair clip you featured!

Good luck!

I want to do a fascinator - I adore the one that you included in your post. It’s so delicate and very bridal. Swoon!

I love the look of hair flowers - I found mine on ETSY! Of course! I used Virginia Geiger Jewels’s Shop and she made me an unbelievably awesome flower.
I send her fabric from my dress and she incorporated it without charging more than she would for just the flower. I was amazed and stunned at how it turned out! LOVE hair flowers!

I got a hair flower from Muscari as well for the reception!

I wanted something really simple without feathers (just not my style) and I ordered the Essential Katie (which is also discontinued) My name is Katie so I thought it was made for me :-)

i went the hair flower route, opting for a real gardenia for the ceremony and a yellow lace flower for the reception.
