Ahh, the wonderful Miss Carrie Bradshaw. That girl knows her shoes. And while I long to strut down the aisle in a pair of Manolos (or Louboutins!) on our wedding day, I know that it’s not practical on many levels. First and foremost, it’s just not in our budget. They are so, so beautiful, and I know that if I got them in a color other than “bridal white” I would definitely wear them again. But can I really justify the cost? I guess it’s just the sensible Midwestern girl coming out in me, but I couldn’t. If I had, however… I would definitely be wearing these beauties; the Christian Louboutin “Dorset” in fuchsia. Yum.

Another reason I wouldn’t be wearing the Louboutins, or really any shoe with a heel, is that I’m a tall drink of water. I’m 5′11″, and Mr. French Fries is 5′9″, so that’s a 2 inch height difference, barefoot. Now, I know that by wearing flats on our wedding day I’m not going to be tricking anyone into thinking that I’m shorter than Mr. Fries. We’ve gotten used to the height differential, and I often wear heels when we go out on the weekends. It’s not a big deal to us anymore. But, I also don’t want to be towering over him at over 6 feet tall. So, flats it is. Plus, I won’t have to worry about swapping out my shoes for something more comfortable at the reception!
A while back, I had found some shoes at J.Crew that were potentially the perfect wedding shoes for me: not too “bridal”, a color that I would be able to wear again, and flat. I debated back and forth for a bit — they were pricey… but not very pricey compared to my dream Louboutins. Essentially they were dressy flip flops… but I am a flip flop girl at heart. Would people hear them as I was walking down the aisle? Their “flip, flop, flip” sound echoing in the church, as some sort of weird background percussion to “Canon in D”? I kept thinking about them, though, and I told myself that I would wait to buy them until they had a sale, or until I could find a decent coupon code somewhere online. I could always return them, I reasoned.
Well. I waited. Annnnd waited. And waited some more. Evidently J.Crew was playing a little hard to get in the sale department. Then, one day, I noticed that they started discontinuing colors. And some sizes. And I had a mini panic attack and thought, ‘if I’m really this upset about the potential for them to sell out, for goodness sake, just buy them already.’ So, I did. And I eagerly anticipated their arrival on my doorstep.
When they arrived, it was love at first sight. They’re perfect! I actually knew it was meant to be when I opened the shipment box and found a bright pink box inside:

(Please excuse the grainy iPhone pic and my TV as a prop. I was too lazy to get my camera.)
Seriously, even the shoebox was perfect — my favorite color! This was definitely a good omen. I opened them up, peeled off my high heels and tried them on. Did I order the right size, or were my long-ish toes going to hang over the end? (I’m sorry, it’s true. When you’re tall, you have a tendency to have long toes.) Would they be comfortable? And how flat were they, really? Well, they were the right size, very comfortable, and they were pretty much the most flat shoes I was going to find for the wedding, save for ballet slippers.

(Also? I’m not really sure why my ankles look blueish purple in this picture. I do have circulation, I swear.)
I’m truly sorry for subjecting you to my feet, but figured that maybe people wanted to see them (since nobody is really even going to see them at the wedding). But… at least my toes are polished!
Did you go with a traditional bridal shoe, or something a little different?
