Ms Potato Chips's Picture
Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant Engagement Date: January 1, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Narragansett Towers About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
About Ms Potato Chips

Words

October 7th, 2009 @ 5:38 pm by Ms Potato Chips

I often ask my students to experiment with different methods of prewriting: outlines, sure, but also word maps, lists, stream-of-consciousness. The latter is how I get started on an essay, how I find inspiration. To tell you the truth, I tried to create an inspiration board and it looked a hot mess. I’ll stick to viewing them on Snippet and Ink. Maybe it’s because I’m a words person? I can’t paint/Photoshop/Polyvore an adequate picture of what I hope our wedding will look like, but I can blurt it out in a jumble of words.

Sand between my toes; booty-shaking iPod mixes; day-long dance party; shoulder-shaking laughter; Del’s lemonade; margherita pizza; a twirly dress; a white-washed beach house, a deck, a dock; a hint of sunshine; the salt of the ocean; zooming scooters; flip-flops; gelato; karaoke. Laughing laughing laugh. Inappropriate jokes at inappropriate times. Our “first look” somewhere on a windy beach and how we’ll shake our heads in disbelief that after seven years, this is all happening.

Close your eyes for a moment. Imagine your wedding day. What words come to mind?

I’m really loving your word jumble, especially the shoulder-shaking laughter and “first look” parts. It was hard for me to put images to what we wanted of our wedding. I think you’ve expressed your hopes/expectations better than any inspiration board ever could!

@Mrs. Yorkie: Thanks Yorkie! My inspiration boards (I did try more than once) were so not Bee-worthy, I had to throw in the towel!

It sounds absolutely beautiful, and you did a great job of conveying it (better than an inspiration board, IMO). I have a hard time with inspiration boards, too (got mine from Snippet) but I have a vision in my mind. I’m working on getting it out onto paper/into craft projects/etc., but it’s harder than I anticpated!

Relaxed, bourbon, small, family, definintely a “first look”, organ music (per the request of boy!), my Atlanta friends in Lexington, horses, massive centerpieces, games, not dancing, sushi, Italian food, lemonade, buttercream, brownies, lots and lots and lots of LOVE!

@KMSull: Love it! Sounds amazing and fun!
@Mrs. Onion: Not me, but Mr. Potato Head is. He got me hooked to Del’s. And that boy loves him some coffee milk!

Oh P Chip! That sounds lovely! You did a great job describing the big day!

I’m not sure what words would describe ours, but I’ll definitely have to think about it!

Beautiful! It seems like recently when I’ve tried to do this, I just get too many words in my brain at once, and then shut down. :p

Yay, I love it! I attempted to make some inspiration boards, but I too am a words person. Not so good with the visual!
