I often ask my students to experiment with different methods of prewriting: outlines, sure, but also word maps, lists, stream-of-consciousness. The latter is how I get started on an essay, how I find inspiration. To tell you the truth, I tried to create an inspiration board and it looked a hot mess. I’ll stick to viewing them on Snippet and Ink. Maybe it’s because I’m a words person? I can’t paint/Photoshop/Polyvore an adequate picture of what I hope our wedding will look like, but I can blurt it out in a jumble of words.
Sand between my toes; booty-shaking iPod mixes; day-long dance party; shoulder-shaking laughter; Del’s lemonade; margherita pizza; a twirly dress; a white-washed beach house, a deck, a dock; a hint of sunshine; the salt of the ocean; zooming scooters; flip-flops; gelato; karaoke. Laughing laughing laugh. Inappropriate jokes at inappropriate times. Our “first look” somewhere on a windy beach and how we’ll shake our heads in disbelief that after seven years, this is all happening.
Close your eyes for a moment. Imagine your wedding day. What words come to mind?
