About Miss Frozen Yogurt

Ab Ripper

October 8th, 2009 @ 12:15 pm by Miss Frozen Yogurt

Ouch. That’s all I have to say. Mr. Fro Yo and I have stated doing the ab ripper, which is one of the exercises in the P90X group. I’m pretty sure the “p” stands for painful. We do it every other day for about 15-20 minutes, and the first week I was so sore I thought people at work were going to ask me what was wrong with me because of the way I was walking. That’s right, it doesn’t just impact your abs, it also works on your hip flexors.

So why am I subjecting myself to this every other day? Well, I despise my stomach. I always have. Bikini shopping and I hate each other. For once in my life I would like to put on a bathing suit and not cringe. And, it’s not like I haven’t tried the other equipment. I have, but it just hasn’t worked.

Remember this guy?

And this one?

abbelt

(Okay, I didn’t really try this, but I thought I should include it)

Well, neither worked, and it was time to get serious. The ab ripper consists of 11 different ab exercises and we do as many as we can of each, rest for about 30 seconds, and then go right into the next one. Want to see some action photos?

It’s been so great to have Mr. Fro Yo to motivate me.

Does your fiance help keep you motivated to work out?

i love this! my fiance is running the marine corps marathon in DC at the end of October, so he’s super fit, and he’s definitely motivated to me be better about going to the gym. So, now Mondays and Saturdays we do Body Pump at our gym together, and Tuesdays and Thursday mornings we do a spinning class before work!

That’s awesome! I’ve been wanting to try that out - I hate my tummy too! Unfortunately - Loverboy doesn’t really work out - he’s a lean mean fat burning machine naturally … and he’s muscular, too - thanks to his job! However, he’s going to start working out with me to get himself really truly somewhat prepared for Basic Training!

My fiance bought me personal training sessions and he keeps me so motivated, but I wish I could just turn it around. He does really well with the eating habits (I could be much better - stupid ben and jerry), but he hates working out. I’ve tried.

I’ve heard such good things about P90X, we want to try it.. but as far as motivation, my fiance is even worse than I am! (Not to mention that when I got home from work yesterday, he was BAKING BROWNIES.)

@missvintage: we cheated and watched the exercises on youtube and then started doing them ourselves.
@marigold: I do that too! But we do that everyday and then I focus on my abs too. Someday…

Mr. FF and I have tossed around the idea of doing P90X, and a co-worker of mine has done it. She said it sucks, but it really does work!

I ended up joining Weight Watchers & getting a personal trainer - and so far my tummy is down, my hips are shrinking - and I’m feelin’ good. Plus I learned how to cook (totally unanticipated extra benefit!)

I asked my doctor (and then my trainer too) about P90X because so many of my friends were raving about it, and they both said that it was a terrific workout but it wasn’t feasible for a long-term, ongoing program, simply because it requires so much time… and who has time like that every day, after working all day, volunteering, planning a wedding, etc. etc. etc.! So that solved it for me - HOWEVER - I think my trainer has watched the DVDs because those abs workouts look awfully similar to ones she’s been having me do!!!

No.. I wish he did. (He’s kinda 3000 miles away… so that doesn’t help). But yay for couple work outs. I hope to have that someday.

Great job, Miss Fro Yo! In no time, you’ll have “Abs of Steel”. ;o)

I would probably skip abs altogether if it wasn’t for Mr. Y. Working out with him makes it fun! I can be goofy with my guy and get a few laughs out of it.

i <3 P90X, but I always skip the ab ripper… since we do it every morning at 5:30 (yes my fiance is my motivation- i love working out together!) it never seems to make our hour workout…maybe it’s about time we squeeze it in!

my husband and i did p90x for about a month (oops…forgot about that whole “90″ thing) and ab ripper x IS.SO.HARD. I remember when the program came in the mail we tried that the first night to get a “taste” of what we were in for. It’s a short workout but awesome!!! Even when we were following the program guidelines (aka working out every day) I still couldn’t do all of the ab ripper moves! I give you props, Miss Fro Yo!

@lallison: Thanks! I’m so impressed that I’m actually getting better! There were some that I could literally do like 3 and now I can do like 25. It has to be doing something, right?

So great you guys do this together. My FI is more of a demotivator which is why I joined a pilates class.

Lol. Awesome action shots.

I have that first one, still! I never use it, but when I was little I thought if I did it 15 times a day like on the infomercials, I’d have a six-pack. Didn’t work.

I haven’t started the “wedding workout” yet, but I know my fiancé will be a big part of my workout.. mostly because he’s a personal trainer! However, I have serious gym-phobia. I hate working out in public so your living room shots seem right up my alley! I might try the EA active game for the Wii..

I love running and cycling with my guy, he has to slow down for me, but it’s a nice connecting time for us. I’ve got some crazy good ab workouts that I’ve picked up from dance classes over the years, maybe I should share.
