About Miss Dachshund

Ch-ch-changes

October 8th, 2009 @ 3:59 pm by Miss Dachshund

Have you ever been forced to wait for something for so long and with such anticipation that once it rolls around it catches you completely off-guard? Well. I’d been going quietly about my day today, entering the piles of paperwork that have been covering my desk for the past month, while my mind was off in the clouds—nervous about meeting every single member of Mr. Dachshund’s extended family this weekend.

Then it hit me.

Mr. Dachshund will be here soon. In-two-weeks soon.

For.

Good.

Please don’t misunderstand; I am absolutely excited and thrilled that Mr. D and I get to start our life together, for realz. However. I’m also anxious, nervous, overwhelmed and, well, just a tiny bit terrified.

I’ve lived by myself for quite a long time. While Mr. D prooobably won’t mind my habit of walking around in my underwear, I’m sure he won’t appreciate my pants lying on the floor on the exact spot in which they were removed… a habit I’ll soon have try to break. I’ll let you guys in on a little secret: I suffer from an aversion to housework.

It’s not just the superficial things I’m nervous about.

I’ve been waiting for this day to come for so long that I never really thought about the changes that it’d bring about… it’s a little bit scary. I think that feeling is justified… change is always scary, right?

On the other hand, sometimes change is “for the better”! When I catch myself mulling over everything in my life that will soon be different, I try to remember why living with Mr. Doxie will be wonderful:

  • I’ll get to wake up with him every morning
  • Rather than turning off the computer at night when we say goodnight, he’ll be there next to me to keep me warm
  • Dinner-and-a-movie isn’t quite as nice when you’re by yourself
  • I’ll get to kiss him every time he makes me smile (he makes me smile a lot)
  • I won’t have to get the stool out if I can’t reach something!
  • There will be less leftovers to go bad in the fridge
  • Our goodbyes will be for hours, not months
  • He makes me happier than anyone ever has, and probably ever will. So, yeah. There’s that.

So! Two short, short weeks. Though I’m more nervous than I ever thought I would be, I’m beyond excited. I. Cannot. Wait. I’m ready to embrace every change that will be thrown at me!

With that in mind, what was the best change that you experienced after moving in with your SO?

that’s so exciting! There was a 98 day period (yes i counted down every day) last year where i was living in DC and my fiance was home in the UK until his visa came through… it was the longest 98 days ever, but once it was over it was the best thing ever!

That’s so exciting Miss D! And that’s a good idea to keep your mind on the good things!
I often suffer from an aversion to housework, but also hate when the Mr eats my left overs hahaha.

Congrats! I bet you big day will be amazing!

I think it’s completely normal to be a little scared — it’s a big change, iven if it’s one for the better! I remember when I moved in with Mr. FF and I kept thinking, “I’m going to be living with a BOY!” It was surreal.

It’s been great, and a learning experience for the both of us. I think the best change kind of ties into what you said about being able to kiss Mr. Dachshund– Mr. FF has made me laugh every single day we’ve been together. Now, when he makes me laugh, I can lean over and kiss him, too! :)

Recently, I went through some of those same feelings before moving in with my FI after many years of a LDR. The best thing, by far, is seeing him every day. Good luck with your changes; I know they will be for the better!

There are so many new and wonderful things about now living with my fiance! He and I were separated by distance as well (he’s from Canada and I live in Boston). Now that he is here, the best thing has been coming home to him at the end of a long day. He’s usually cooking in the kitchen, and so I’ll stand there and drink a glass of wine or snack while he’s cooking, telling him about my day, hearing about his, and just generally enjoying the every-day routine… together! Good luck with your changes, they are going to be fantastic I am sure!

Oh my gosh, so exciting!! But oh yeah, I remember when I moved in with Mr. Fro Yo and we were laying in bed together in our new house and I just kept thinking, holy crap, we LIVE together. I mean I was excited but also a little terrified. And now it’s so great.

Yay! That is so incredibly exciting! Being a former long-distance fiance - I am so excited for you to have this big change! And I just offer one warning - time is going to fly by! As soon as my FI and I were reunited we were having so much fun that I have no idea where the time went! Nothing to be scared of!

Oh, I was terrified of moving in with the Mister! Despite the fact that I’ve known him for so long, we had only been dating for a month! I debated not doing it, but my mom said to me “You’re young, you’ve got nothing to lose. If it doesn’t work out, you’re more than welcome to come stay with me unil you get your feet back on the ground.” It was by far the best advice I’ve ever recieved. Sure, there are things here and there that come up, but I’ve never been happier. And that’s the best feeling ever.

I think the best part was not having to live with crazy roommates anymore! Oh the drama they would cause. The worst part. . .we are both so, so messy. :-)

Honestly, the best part is the feeling that we’ve been doing this FOREVER. Yes, there have been adjustments, but I think we’ve both been surprised at how easy and natural everything feels. For the first time since I left my parent’s home, I feel AT HOME.

I do the pants thing too. Don’t sweat it - my man has gotten used to it. When I leave my clothes lying around, he makes a nice little passive aggressive pile and then eventually hints that I should move them. If you need any advice on how to deal, I have a lot of experience in how to get him to lower his expectations.

Totally normal! I was so worried living w/ Mr Frenchie would get in the way of my morning routine :-/ I feel so badly saying that now! He is wonderful and lets me get ready w/ the bathroom ALL to myself.
I’m so excited for you and Mr Dozie :)

I can finally cook for us! We’ve been dating for over two years, and for the first year, we were in the same city but about a half hour away, vs for the last year, I was in NYC and he was in Pittsburgh. For that first year, I’d stay at his house a lot, and his kitchen *sucked*. I remember making brownies in his roommate’s chili pot because it was the only bowl they owned! But now, we’re in the same place and I have my wonderful kitchen supplies with me, and it’s awesome :) Cooking for two is so much better than cooking for just one.

I can’t wait until we both graduate (May) and I finally won’t have to live half of the time in LG and half of the time in Atlanta.

When my FI moved in after a year and a half of long distance, I was thrilled and terrified all at the same time. What if we couldn’t stand living together? But it was fantastic and I love him even more now than I ever thought I could. It will be fabulous for you! Congrats on a huge milestone! :)

Yes, there will be a lot of small things to get used to with each other, but the best thing in the entire world is waking up with each other every morning!

Awww, this post made me nostalgic for the super exciting time when Mr. Bru and I moved in together! :-) We love, love, love cooking for each other — and I’ve learned so many more of my mister’s quirks…and I find more adorable ;-)

My FAVORITE quote about change is, “Change is not ‘change’ if it’s the logical next step!” - and I try to keep that in mind with all of our “changes” - big and small. Biggest - we are moving to Minnesota in 3 weeks!!!!! :)

we never lived together before we got married, so we experienced a lot of changes (and still!), but it’s sooo good, specially the fact that you get to see your beloved every day and no one as to go because we live under the same roof!

Aww that is so exciting! I’m past the aversion to housework and am certified “slob” by the boyfriend. Those dishes WILL clean themselves if i wait long enough!

My favorite changes- not having to say goodbye (cause it was a LDR), someone else to help with laundry & cleaning the house, and like Miss Moonbeam…the kisses and cuddles whenever I want!

I’m so excited that in just TWO WEEKS you’ll get to learn so many new things about eachother! I was so scared to move in with my husband, I was afraid we’d fight or I’d discover he was addicted to porn… Yeah, every terrible scenario ran through my head. Turns out his worst habit is squeezing the middle of the tube of toothpaste!

Ahhhh, so exciting, Miss Doxie!! My BF and I were in an LDR for the first 4ish years of our relationship– he was in college in VT and I was in CT then MA. So it wasn’t all that far, but it was 9 months of the year, so it was definitely tough. When I graduated last year (he’d already been out of school a year), we knew we’d move in together at the end of the summer.

And it has been the best thing we’ve ever done. We have our own place, we’ve learned about each other’s quirks (he’s a neat freak, especially when it comes to floors, and I hate folding and putting away laundry more than anything).

The best parts: snuggling next to him before falling asleep every night and Sundays in general. Pure bliss :)

Best change that happened after FI and I moved in together….building our own home and life together. Always, my life was on someone else’s terms and rules (my parents etc.) but we finally got to start building on our own dreams and now we’re in the process of buying our first home together!

We were three hours long distance before we moved in together, and the best part was the big hug I get every day when I walk in the door after a long day at work! Sooo much better than having to go home to an empty house!!

So exciting! You’re going to love it. The best thing about moving in with my guy was that we no longer had to make the trek from his place to mine every night, figure out where we were sleeping that night, etc. (Yeah, we probably should have moved in together a bit sooner, hehe.)

I’m a little late to the comment-posting party, because I was busy moving in with my fiance!!! Yup, after 2.5 years of being in a long distance relationship (he in Georgia and I was in NM), we are officially living together!!! We’ll only be living together for about two and a half months before I go home to plan more for the wedding, but I think it’s going to be fantabulous!
