Miss Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Miss Lamb

China

October 8th, 2009 @ 11:24 am by Miss Lamb

The title may be ironic as the China that we have chosen is not actually manufactured in China, but instead in Indonesia or the very vague Near East (according to Wikipedia). Is it ironic? Is Alanis Morissette ironic? Should I be looking things up on Wikipedia and taking them as truth? Is it ethical to buy China that is manufactured in Indonesia? Discuss.

JK, please do not bring the comments section down with an irony discussion. That would be too ironic.

Anychina, during our dating relationship, my ram hunk and I had discussed fond memories of large family gatherings that revolved around food. And that food was served on China. My mom has a set of Christmas China and it gives me the warm and fuzzies when it becomes time to dust it off and serve heaps of turkey and cranberry dressing on it.

I have done an admittedly halfhearted job at searching for China patterns that I like. I was pretty sure I wanted some, but in all my “crazy girl” wedding phases, I never actually picked out a pattern before. Basically, I clicked through each of the patterns that Macy’s carries and sent Lambers an email with my top three.

1

The lovely Martha Stewart “Garden Moss” for Wedgwood

2

The classic Noritake “Crestwood Cobalt Platinum”

3

Or the ever proper Royal Doulton “Countess”

(All china and images from www.macys.com)

My wooly counterpart preferred the last two choices… I think there’s a weird connection to him being a boy and preferring the blue choices…

I preferred two of them myself. Which ones do you think I liked best? Which ones do you think we’ve decided to register for?

I’m going to guess that you preferred the first and third, so you picked the third. Maybe?

Hmmm, I think you liked #1 and #3, and went with #3. I like them all! We haven’t decided if we’re registering for fine china yet, but #1 makes me completely reconsider!

I chose #3! We went to Macys and actually set up two or three place settings and that one looked the best all together. I love the different and complimentary patterns! :)

#1 was indeed one of my preferred! I liked that it was a different color than most. If I had more modern decorating tastes, I totally would have wanted to go with the Kate Spade Gardner Street set! http://bloomingdales.weddingchannel.com/registry/catalog/Gardner+Street+Green+Dinnerwar/ID/907/PID/444594

@fromcharleston: One of my bridesmaids totally picked that one as a favorite! As you can tell from my choices, I still like pretty traditional things, and this one is just so classic and understated!

My husband and I have #2 and it’s lovely. The extra bonus was that we were able to find platinum-rimmed, white regular dishes at Sears last Christmas that compliment our fine china. And it’s also pretty easy to find complimentary platinum-rimmed crystal.

Guessing that your favorites are one and three, and the final choice is three. Are you going to pick a Christmas china… even chose to let your family know you’d like a set that matches your mom’s? In my family, we have a set of Autumn china that was my Great Grandparents wedding china, and two sets of Christmas dishes… one is formal bone china… and the other a little less formal so one is for all the holiday season and the other for the grand meals. My mom got me a set of winter dishes for my first apartment, so I already have a set of “Christmas” dishes… although I’d really like a set that matches those I grew up with! I definitely love pretty dishes! Your choices are classic!

We were very close to selecting #2 as well but opted for a simpler pattern. I’ve forgotten what they’re called (also Noritake) but it’s mostly white with a platinum rim around. We found lovely Mikasa glasses to match so the decision was made easier.

#2 is lovely though.

@Miss bliss: I love my Mom’s Christmas China!!! I don’t know if I’ll get my own, or wait for hers to be passed down. But it’s my favorite time of year when we get it down :)

OOH, love the MS moss AND the royal doulton. So jealous - no one in our families uses china so we don’t have any fond memories of special dishes…. i think i really just wanted china because it’s so freakin’ pretty.

I really like 2, but I felt like 1 would be your fav. We never used china in my house but my mom had her wedding dishes in a china closet on display. I think my parents recently started using the now that they are empty-nesters.

I vote for 3, though I love 1.

I will never ever in my life ever have to register for china. I have 2 sets of grandmothers, an aunt, and a mom. And I’m the only girl. Plate smashing to follow.
