Positively Glowing

October 8th, 2009 @ 11:00 am by Miss Parfait

Longing for that bridal glow? Only have $5 to spend?

Me, too! And now I’m luxuriating in my own golden glow. Here’s the scoop:

A few weeks ago, my MOH and I were discussing the perils and wonders of body moisturizers. The most perilous? Baby Oil. We agreed that it’s a brilliant product idea, but we both have allergic reactions to it. And the most wonderful? That has to be the Olay In-Shower Body Lotion.

Before our conversation, I had a bottle of this wonder-product sitting in my toiletry cabinet. I bought it out of curiosity but was afraid of an allergic reaction, so I avoided using it for months. During our chat, my MOH told me how she used hers, had no adverse reaction, and even discovered a (totally unadvertised) bonus: A subtle, sparkly glow!

Olay!

Olay!

I tried it and have been using it daily for a month! It makes my skin feel so soft that when I cross my legs, I bounce them lightly against each other and think, “Ooooh, so smooth!” I don’t love the perfume-y aroma, so I’m on the hunt for the gold-bottled version in hopes that it has a lighter scent. Lotion-ing up in the shower is super convenient, and as for that glow? It’s glow-rious! :P

Indoors, my skin looks fresh and smooth. Outdoors, the sun reveals the teeniest gold specks of sparkle all over. Unlike most shimmery lotions, this sparkle doesn’t get all over your clothes or your fiance’s face (isn’t that adorable when it happens, though?). It’s perfect for daily use in the summer, and you can bet it’ll be in my bundle of beauty supplies for the wedding day!

Got any wonder-products to share with the hive?

Mac eye cream shadows! They are AMAZING! They can go on sheer or bold and they are shimmery without being Discotheque Child bad.

Love personal care product reviews! I love my Origins face scrub — forget the name, but I blogged about it pre-wedding. It smells amazing and makes my skin soooo smooth!

I’ll have to try this! I was always wary of the in-shower ones. it seems like you would just wash it all off. good to hear such a positive review!

I love personal care recommendations! I can’t wait to try it out!
Personally, I’m addicted to my Bare Minerals Night Makeup… sometimes when I’m lazy in the morning I dab it on before work :) Its helped clear a few blemish marks and leaves my face looking natural!

@Mrs Bruschetta, I bought that scrub too! I like how it makes my face feel, but honestly after 6 weeks haven’t noticed much difference. It will last a long time though!

Thanks for the tip, Miss P - I’ll be looking for that!

OLAY QUENCH LOTION w/ ALOE. It moisturizes (i put it on as soon as i get out of the shower) PLUS it has shimmers in the lotion so you’ll be smooth and radiant. enjoy!

A lot of people don’t like this but I use vaseline after I take a shower. Works wonders!

I’m a big fan of Jergen’s Shea Butter lotion. It makes my legs so smooth and it smells nice and subtle.

Definitely Cetaphil face wash…it doesn’t make my face stiff like others that are overly drying, and instead it feels soft and clean.

I’m so weird about lotion. I need it, but I avoid wearing it because I don’t like the feel of it. :( It drives me crazy at the gym. I feel like a sweaty monster.

Thanks for your product recommendations, too, girls!

@Mrs. Bruschetta and @shelliduke: Is it called Never a Dull Moment? I have a little tub of it, but I get WAY too into the scrubbing part—I hurt my face the first time. I need to calm it down, and maybe I’ll like it better. :)

@fiftyfootbride: Oh gosh, I can’t stand that feeling either. Or having to put on skinny jeans right after I applied lotion…I feel like I’m just lotioning my pants. :P

The sparkle lotion is amazing UNLESS you are prone to break outs. I loved the glow it gave but within a month I was breaking out more than I have since high school. Once I realized those little sparkles were probably clogging my pores, I stopped using it, and my skin cleared right up.

Hmm, have to give this a shot. I love my Burt’s Bee’s Garden Tomato toner. Doesn’t sting just leaves skin fresh.

Love this stuff! I have a problem with lotions, so this is one that doesn’t make my whole body feel like it’s burning!
