Mrs. Labrador's Picture
Mrs. Labrador Retriever, Athens/Savannah Age and Occupation: 24, Student/Sports Reporter Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Physical Therapy Assistant Student/Future Dr. of PT Engagement Date: December 31, 2008 Wedding Date: November 2009 Venue: Whitfield Square/Savannah Station About Me: I'm working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. About Mrs. Labrador

Photo (Pr)Ops

October 9th, 2009 @ 2:30 pm by Mrs. Labrador

As you may know by now, our wedding is an ode to the Southern way of life. I started to think about Southern Belles and realized that for some of our wedding pictures, I really want to look the part. Not quite as done up as this…

… but still with the same essence. So I hopped on eBay and found a very “Southern” looking lace parasol and matching fan. How great will these look in photos of me in my dress walking around Savannah’s famous historic squares?

Source

I love that the lace will complement my dress. And speaking of my dress, I’ve been researching some dress forms as well. I want some shots of my dress on a mannequin. Don’t get me wrong, I love love love the artistic look of the “dress on the hanger in a doorway or window photo”…

Source

…but I also want some shots of my dress displayed in its full form glory. There’s just something about a dress on a mannequin that makes my heart flutter.

Source (P.S.-The bride made this dress!)

I haven’t purchased the dress form yet, but I’m in love with one like this:

Source

After the wedding, I plan to put my new dress form to good use. I have a sewing machine my mom gave me a couple Christmases ago and want to start picking up where I left off in 9th grade Home Ec. I figure I’ll have to fill my post-wedding DIY blues with a new craft, so sewing it is! I’ll eventually need a dress form as I get better, so I’ll already have one!

And if I happen to procrastinate and end up not brushing the dust off my sewing machine, I’ll just “antique” my form and use it as a pretty display in my house. It’s a win-win!

Are you buying any special “props” for your wedding day? Do you plan to use them after the big day has passed?

What a neat idea with the dress form. My dress was too flimsey/didn’t have enough body to look good hanging on a hanger. A dress form would have been perfect!

I love your lace parasol and fan! Your pics are going to be fabulous!

I’m really toying with the idea of a spring/summer parasol as well. It’d make for some really cute photo ops afterwards but it’d look awesome on my wall afterwards as well :)
I love the dress form. So beautiful!

Check out stores that are closing too. When the last place I worked closed we had those exact mannequins for pretty cheap.

Such a unique idea! :) I’m planning on taking up sewing after the wedding, too, in order to combat PWD.

Wow… how glamorous :)

I’m only going so far as to use personalized wire hangers from Etsy that my sister bought me.

I was planning on doing the exact same thing! I love the lace parasols on eBay : ) Did you know they have mini-ones for flower girls? So adorable. My grandmother has a wrought iron dress form in her Parisian style bathroom - I love it. I would definitely use it for decorating!

I LOVE this idea! Dress forms are so cute, and the antique ones always look so chic sitting around the house all dressed up (but with no place to go!). Very creative!

I love that pink gown. IT is sooo southern and sooo bellish and sooo very ME!! Although I’m a California girl often mistaken for a Southern Belle. Not sure where I get the accent from. LOL!!!

Great idea. I used to really want a dress form when I was a kid so I could dress it up like a doll. This was before eBay and whatever else that actually makes it possible for regular people to have such things. And, I should add, before I had money. Anyhow, great idea!

I got a sewing machine a few years ago for Christmas, too! And I’ve been considering picking up from Home-ec as well! I haven’t sewn a thing since then!
