Puppy Love

October 9th, 2009 @ 11:58 am by Mrs. Parfait

Mr. Parfait and I want to include our entire families in our wedding. However, we each have a little sibling who cannot attend! Mine is named Luxi, but she also responds to Luxe, Bebe Seeeester, and a variety of songs in which I insert her name in the chorus. :D

She’s a 4-year-old beagle/spaniel mix, which (I would passionately state) is the most beautiful mix ever! She’s a happy, hyper dog, but she is also incredibly sensitive and emotional. She’s always aware of how I’m feeling and eager to comfort me when I’m blue. After a particularly stressful night, she brought me one of our favorite toys and put her arm around me until I felt warm and happy again:

Mr. Parfait also has a doggie sibling—an adorable shih-tzu who is 12 years old! We want to include our fluffy little siblings in our wedding, but we’re torn about how to do it. Here are our options so far:

1. Invite our doggies into the rooms where we’re getting ready. The picture below is too precious. I love how we can see the relationship through the doggie’s eyes and the calm of being with an old friend on a life-changing day. This is perfect for Mr. P. and his pup. However, my excitable puppy has been known to scratch through clothing…

2. Sneak them into the church for the ceremony. Oh, my sweet Luxe could totally do this!

3. Bring them along for our wedding day portraits. They would totally work the doggie formal-wear!

4. Set out a display of these sweet cupcakes. They already look like Mr. Parfait’s pup, and we could make some in Luxi’s likeness, too! I would add framed pictures of them to the dessert table, so people could compare our pups to their cupcake doppelgängers.

5. Sneak them into the reception. I would love to take my spritely puppy out on the dance floor!

So #2 and #5 are risky, but we would treasure the memories and pictures forever! Anyone else wish they could have a special Bride and Doggie dance? Which of the options above do you prefer?

I would love to include our pets on our wedding day — we have 2 dogs and 1 cat, and I know that I would absolutely love the pictures. But, like you said — it can be hard to include them.

I’d love to get ready at our house, so that would mean the pets would be there in full force! We’ve also considered doing a day-after session at home so we can include them.

You have such adorable puppies! I love those cupcakes too, btw.

I wish we could incorporate our kitty into the wedding somehow, but I know it would just stress her out. Plus, the church would have a sh*t-fit.

I love the idea! I so wish we could include our lil guy, but it would be too much.

I love the idea of including them in the ceremony…is that feasible for you?

My only warning about the reception is that all that noise and commotion could be very overwhelming to an animal.

Oh I love this post! I am definitely including my two babies into our entire wedding. I have a cocker spaniel and a rottweiler who will be walked down the aisle as our flower girls. I am thinking this will be a good way to incorporate my mom into the bridal procession. They will definitly be dressed in little dresses w/ hair flowers to match the group. I know I am “one of those” dog owners. But this is one of the best perks of saying yes to a backyard wedding.

I might stick with the pictures or the cupcakes. There are lots of people out there who are afraid of/uncomfortable around dogs. In addition there are allergy issues. My younger sister is so allergic to animals she has an epipen for them! Her ex-boyfriend’s family had dogs, and if he had been at their house and she leaned on his shirt, she would get hives wherever she touched it. Just be careful, you never know! Plus I’m sure your venue wouldn’t appreciate if one of the dogs did their business. . .;)

If I had it my way my 2 cats and my parents dog and cat would all join us the day of the wedding! Since that’s not gonna happen we’re going to frame a picture of our 2 cats and put these on the table letting our guests know that we donated money to a local shelter in lieu of a gift.

We are totally trying to encorporate our pup (A beagle/pointer mix - looks kinda like Luxi, but his name is Biscuit) - we are having him in a little bowtie, and having him carry the rings down the aisle; this works because we are not having ring barers (no children, please!) and we are having an outdoor ceremony under a park gazebo. Still torn on what we’ll do with him after the ceremony.

LOVE the cupcake idea… but I say, if your dogs kick butt, and you want them there, then I would go ahead and plan a way for them to be there!! :) Good luck, keep us posted!!!

I’m doing a ton to involve my pugs. I already commissioned 3 outfits (2 gowns and a tie set) for them (plus one for their “uncle” aka FI’s mom’s shih tzu) and will take pictures with them pre-wedding. LOTS of lint rollers available! I also am including pictures of them in a lot of things.

I reallllly wanted to bring my dog into a part of the wedding somehow but chose not to because it would be stressful (as it may not seem to be) for him, also for guests as they may have allergies or issues with dogs. It was not fair to the dog and everyone else…

A photo op with the dog during the day before the ceremony would be sweet.

if you can’t bring them on the wedding day, have you thought of doing an aftershoot with your dogs?

Me too!! Your puppster is soo snugglicious! We want to include our love puppy too, but we’re not sure how…and a little afraid because something like #2 or #5 could turn into a disaster for us!! ;)

Before we signed contract with our venue, we made sure they’d let us bring Billie. I feel like if we’d have asked afterward they’d have said no (there is a big “NO DOGS ALLOWED” sign in front hehe) but the thought of losing thousands of dollars over a little dog I’m sure changed their minds, since we hadn’t forked over any cash yet :) I’m so glad she was able to be there with us on our big day!

I love your dog!! I would love to include ours, but we’re not sure how she’ll do behavior wise when she sees either or us for the first time that day…well…we do…she’ll jump & bark.

I wish we could include ours! However, there are three of them and they are all hyper…a wedding wouldn’t be a good place for them. We’re planning to do part of our engagement shoot with them, and then we’ll probably bring in framed pictures or something.

I love my pit bull the exact same way. He’s the sweetest. If the backyard wedding goes down, maybe I could invite him. . .

Aww I love the pic of the little dog running down the aisle solo & the pic of the dog watching the groom get ready :)

Geez… I’d try to sneak that cutie into the church :) Would the reception be too much for your pup depending on the size of your guest list? Or is she cool with large crowds?

That last picture is PRICELESS!!

We have two pit bulls, and my groom has already said - many times, and firmly - that if the girls aren’t at the wedding, neither will he be! So that’s that, I guess :)
