Ms Potato Chips's Picture
Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant Engagement Date: January 1, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Narragansett Towers About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.

Roller Coaster of Love

October 11th, 2009 @ 1:10 pm by Ms Potato Chips

Back in June we set a date for engagement photos, and my, that crept up on us! (Another post forthcoming about how we chose our awesome photographers!) Three weeks before the shoot I realized I had nothing to wear! My chest was (still is) quite swollen. Shoot. Surgery aside, I was certain engagement photos are a good enough reason for a new dress. Right? Right??

Because of all this post-surgical recovery hoo-ha, I knew I’d be able to pose, but to play? To ride the Pirate Ship or Xtreme Frisbee? Probably not.

n710443514_651146_9376

I should mention we decided to do our photos at a nearby amusement park.

It’s like the Disney World of southern New Hampshire! And so very “us”: goofy, silly, a little giddy. Plus, our photographers are awesome and I knew we’d have a lot of fun, Pirate Ship or no Pirate Ship (no Pirate Ship?? wahhh!).

Mr. Potato Head had his attire down pat: he planned on wearing khakis, either flip flops or dress shoes, and a button down, sleeves rolled up. It’s sorta his uniform. And a very cute one!

I cruised Anthropologie and Ann Taylor for days but nothing caught my eye. But when I looked at J.Crew online, I found this cutey cute dress.

Bonus: Pockets!!

I could see this little frock paired with my absurdly bright yellow heels and some pretty jewelry.

Instead of an outfit change, I thought I’d throw on my favorite jean jacket and hot pink scarf, the one I wear everywhere. EVah-ree-where. (Ohhh I am so happy it’s fall! How I love to snuggle up in my comfy pink scarf, pair it with hoodies and tanks alike, cart it to movies, restaurants, and bookstores. It’s like an old friend.)

I totally used the engagement shoot as an excuse for a new dress, even if I had to scrape around my couch cushions for the coinage to afford it!

If you took engagement photos, where did you get them taken? Did you splurge on a new outfit?

Fun!

We’re having ours taken on November 8th. I think we’re going to run around an area of Atlanta that is really funky and awesome. (Little 5). Graffiti, homeless dudes, awesome funky stores, etc. It doesn’t feel like you’re even in the South. :p

Oh I love that dress! I totally splurged on a new outfit, but it wasn’t anything fancy. Just a pair of great white shorts, a baby blue cami, and a navy 3/4 sleeve cardigan… it looked adorable (and very spring-y) against all of the great foliage where we took our pics. Can’t wait to see your photos!

Ms. Potato Chips…I just LOVE your blog!! :) How fun that you are doing your e-pics at an amusement park!

We went on vacation to Mexico the week after we got engaged with a group of friends (one of which does photography on the side…bonus!!!) She did our e-pics for FREE on the ocean. We got so many amazing shots in a bunch of different outfits! It was so much fun to run up and down the beach, piggy back rides, sunsets, etc.

OMG, Canobe lake park? I grew up in NH used to visit at least once or twice a year! I had a classic 1950s party dress made for engagement photos… I’ll re-use it for our rehearsal dinner, and I also rocked the bright yellow heels… We also took photos at Seattle Center, where there is a small carnival area. :) I swear you’re my twin… E-photos was a great excuse for me and the mister to purchase some new duds.

took mine in the middle of winter. So I bought a new peacoat to wear since any outfit I would have bought would have just been covered up.

A new dress is a must have for the engagement photos! It makes you feel a little more special than you already are! I bought a new dress and the pictures were amazing. I was happy I made the purchase! I can’t wait to see your pictures. Where’d you get yellow heels? I just started my search for some cute yellow shoes for our wedding!

I love the dress! And I can totally see it both ways. Maybe when you add the jacket and scarf you could also add some cute ankle boots? I’ve seen some awesome flat ones lately.

We had our taken at a playground, our school, railroad tracks, a field, downtown, and a park (I don’t think I left anything out). And we did buy new clothes. We each got a white shirt.

Too funny - we did ours today. At the beach which was suprisingly warm for NJ in October. :-)
And I wore an Ann Taylor short sundress in black I bought this summer. He bought himself a new shirt but ended up not wearing it.

@fiftyfootbride: I can’t wait to hear where you end up, there are so many awesome places in ATL. I lived there before I moved to DC a year ago. Piedmont Park would also be a great place to take pics!

That outfit will be totally cute! :) Love that dress. We’re still not sure when/where we’re taking our e-pics, but I have a feeling it’s going to require some new clothing on my part.

Is that Canobie Lake Park? If so, great choice! I think the outfit will be fun and totally appropriate for the location with the bright shoes and scarf!

I almost picked a reception site across the lake. I thought it would be great because Canobie has fireworks on Friday nights [our wedding is on a Friday]! Very great idea for e-pics.

And you never need an excuse for a new cute dress!

We took our engagement photos at our uni and at a regional state park. We also both purchased new clothes and I knit myself a wrap to wear with my new dress. It was kind of awesome. :)
