Mrs. Parfait, Chicago Age and Occupation: 26, Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Senior Online Consultant Engagement Date: February 14, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2010 Venue: Signature Events About Me: I have a soft spot for all things sweet and romantic. Desserts, love songs, sappy movies? Yes, yes, and ohh yes. My fiance and I enjoy singing to our dogs, creating crazy ice cream sundaes, and generally being lovey dovey cuddle bunnies. We also do socially acceptable things like dancing, throwing Frisbees, playing high stakes board games, and taking unreasonably fun road-trips. We're planning a Korean/Serbian wedding with plenty of playful, personal touches!
About Mrs. Parfait

As soon as Mr. Parfait and I chose our date, I was ready and rarin’ to start creating our stationery! First up: Save the Dates!

I think magnet Save the Dates are adorable, so I researched some magnet-making companies. I have little faith in my artistic abilities, so I was looking for a pretty template that I could fill in. The three sites I checked out were Overnight Prints, VistaPrint, and MagnetStreet. I’ll share about my brief encounters with the first two companies and my experience using the last. Of course, their prices, selection, and websites may change after this post!

Overnight Prints: 100 magnets (2? x 3.5?) = $44.95

  • Cons: The provided designs looked a bit outdated and impersonal to me.
  • Pros: You can create a custom design in three steps (pictured above). They offered tons of background images, organized by categories for easy searching.
  • Conclusion: If you want to build your own design and want a place that makes it easy for you, this is a great place to go!

Vistaprint: 100 magnets (2″ x 3.5″) = $26.24

  • Cons: I had trouble finding my way through the many links on the homepage.
  • Pros: You can customize templates (pictured above), and they have an option to upload your own complete design.
  • Conclusion: If you have the skills to create a design on your own, I would definitely consider Vistaprint. Seriously, what a bargain!

Magnet Maker, Magnet Maker, Make Me a… : wedding diy save the dates tutorial 3 magnet3

MagnetStreet: 100 magnets (2″ x 3.5″) = $119.00

  • Cons: Pricey! Yeow!
  • Pros: They have a 60-page section devoted to Save the Date magnets! Their Design Studio (pictured above) was easy to use and had a built-in photo editor. Polished or rustic; vintage or modern; silly or serious—their fresh designs covered all the bases.
  • Conclusion: Despite the price, this smart and stylish website won my business!

You can find coupon codes online for these businesses at Retail Me Not. I can’t comment on the quality of products from Overnight Prints or Vistaprint, but I did receive my magnets from MagnetStreet (eeee!!!)! I ordered 200 of their 3.5″ x 4″ magnets, and every single one came in perfect condition. The colors are vibrant; the pictures are clear; the edges are clean; and they’re just so cute I want to stick them to everyone’s front doors! Ahem, refrigerators!

They arrived with samples of invitations, thank you cards, and other cute stuff. Also, the envelopes are included (I wasn’t sure if they were or not when I ordered them), so I found 200 silver-lined envelopes at the bottom of the package. Overall, I was very impressed with their website and product!

I totally don’t mean to be a commercial, but I do recommend them if you have the budget and lack design skills. I’ll show you our magnets once we get them sent out!

Where did you get your Save the Dates from? Did you like how they turned out?

We got ours from VistaPrint, but we did postcards and not magnets. Had we gone the magnet route, we would have definitely gone through Magnet Street! Good choice! :)

you can get those magnets even cheaper at vistaprint, sometimes FREE, if you sign up for their mailing list on their website.

We made Save the Date magnets through Vistaprint (very similar to Overnight prints) and were thoroughly pleased. Along with the discount code it was quite a deal! You can check out our modern save the date magnets here:

I didn’t do magnets (postcards) and didn’t have any trouble following the instructions for VistaPrint. The toughest part of using VistaPrint is figuring out how to get the best price since they’re always running some special.

it’s so ncie to hear your comparison of the different websites!

We used a design-savvy friend and Kinko’s to print ours. With my lack of design skills, a website like MagnetStreet sounds like it would be right up my alley!

I wish I would have done this! BUT I found a great Etsy seller to do the work for me, since (though it’s my job) I suck at design.

thanks for the reviews! I’m still torn on save the dates … not entirely sure how I feel about them yet - but the magnet ones are definitely fun!
