Mrs. Rainbow's Picture
Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!
About Mrs. Rainbow

… besides saying “yes” and “I do”. The Colors. Dun, dun, dun… cue the ominous music. Okay, maybe it’s not THAT serious, but it’s close! Wedding colors dictate the whole feel/mood/ambiance of a wedding, or any space, for that matter. Think about it… you go to a spa and everything is soothing and calm: blues, greens, greys. A nice restaurant: rich reds, browns, and golds; it’s warm and inviting. This is not by accident, people! It has been proven time and time again that colors really DO affect our mood and perception. That being said, my first instinct was a peacock theme. Anyone who knows me knows I ADORE feathers, any and all types. My senior prom dress was covered in feathers, and yes, it was fabulous. I think they are just the absolute most dreamy, fairy tale-esque, whimsical thing on the planet. So, peacock it was!

Beautiful, but I soon realized just how popular this peacock theme was becoming. So then I wanted something a little softer, more romantic, less bold, and “floaty”, if you will. So, it became a French royalty, English garden, very lacey, pink, green, and gold affair. Something like this:

Gorgeous, oui? Great. Perfect. No problems. That was until I started searching for green BM dresses. It was a nightmare! Who knew there were SO MANY shades of green?! First it was olive, which became emerald, then kelly, then lime. At this point, I was starting to become an interesting shade of pea. To make matters worse, it suddenly occurred to me that my wedding dress has silvery beading, so the gold just wouldn’t do. Unbelievable! After lots of frustration, it was on to the next color palette:

Tiffany blue, blush, and silver, with a touch of Marie Antoinette. Sophia Coppola, you’ve done it to us all. This was it! No more! Yeah, until literally less than 24 hours later I suddenly decided that for one reason or another, bright Tiffany blue got on my nerves. My poor fiance. So what did we decide on? Well… you’ll just have to stay tuned to find out!

Have you ever had serious color indecision? How many different color schemes did you do through?

When we were originally planning our wedding we wanted to do a peacock theme also.

Then we switched to an apple green and black and white damask theme.

And of course, we ended up not using either!!! Lol

Haha, interesting shade of pea! Choosing a color palette is so much fun, but I’ve also kept changing my mind. First I thought purple and green, then shades of blue and green, and now I’m definitely onto the Marie Antoinette palette, for sure. And yes, thank you Sofia Coppola. Check out this inspiration board I made, based on the movie:

Color schemes can be a pain. I love purples, greens, navy & yellow…basically any that doesn’t contain pink. However, my dear other half doesn’t really seem to like any. He finally suggests let’s have red sox colors. I’m like okay….however I’m not really thrilled about a Red White & Blue theme…(I refuse to just do red and white…I want more color) so for the moment, our plan is two blues, and maybe various reds as well. But I keep hoping he changes his mind…lol

Oh my gosh have I had serious color scheme color indecision. I have thought about
- bright pink and green
- purple and green
- black and bright pink (for half a sec)
Before settling on Fuchsia and Navy as seen in this inspiration board from SMP : http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/08/05/inspiration-board-1/

Hilarious! We were between the same two pink/gold and peacock. We went with the peacock colors, minus the actual peacock feathers. My girls are wearing cobalt and we’re all carrying white flowers! Love the colors, and we’re able to pull it off without being over the top by not using plumes.

As you know, I suffered from severe color indecision! I think working through various options helps, though — you know you’re picking the right one!

Oh yeah it was not easy picking colors! I ended up matching a color of the invitations that I got free from my uncle. Then I was totally obsessed with making everything else match it!

BTW you should really share a photo of this prom dress of yours! Sounds awesome!

Ugh! This is the exact problem I’m having! There are so many different combinations, and they make such a huge overall difference in the feel of your wedding that OMG the dear is paralyzing.

I love all your ideas and color palettes! I can relate to you- I changed my mind several times! My advice: consider your venue and what color palette would look best, consider the season, and find some inspirational pics that you absolutely looove. :)

I feel your pain! Choosing a color scheme was the most difficult part of the whole planning process for me!

We had the same problem. We went from color-scheme to color-scheme, and went through about 4-5 combos before finally settling! The internet is evil, I think it gave me too many options, so I kept changing my mind!
