Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

Children vs. Dogs

October 13th, 2009 @ 12:19 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

We’ve all seen those photos of sweet little pink-cheeked children looking oh-so angelic at weddings, with their mussed up curls and their cute little dresses. Seriously, who doesn’t love a little boy in a tiny suit?:

Aww, adorable, right? Right. But sometimes there is a distinct chance that children might not enjoy an otherwise adult affair.

Although we won’t be having kids at (or in) our wedding, we WILL have our 3 dogs there. Yup, you heard right. No kids, just dogs. Our dogs are like our children, so we couldn’t imagine having a wedding without them there. It might sound a little backwards, but at the end of the day, it is our wedding. And come on, how can you say no to this?

Scout (3 months), Sophie (2 years), Spade (1 year)

I’m such a proud mama! Sophie will be our flower girl, and Spade will be the ring bearer. I’ll be back to show you what I made for Sophie and Spade to wear at the wedding! With Scout being the newest addition, I’m not sure what his “official job title” (hehe) will be at the wedding. Any suggestions?

Did you do anything at your wedding that other people may find “questionable” but was very “you”? Did you get any negative comments, and if so, how did you deal?

How about for Scout: “Awesome Pup”. For he is sooooooooooooooooo adorable!

We’re not going to have a flower girl or a ring bearer, (which is potentially causing drama with my sister and her kids….) but we are thinking of having FI’s service dog act in one capacity or another, maybe by sewing special pockets into her “wedding cape”.

Incidentally, I’m DYING to see what you put your pups in!

they are so cute! ahh, i almost want one. lol

as far as the negative comments, i’d take it with a grain of salt. essentially this is your party so you get to pick the guest list. that’s it. people need to understand that they can’t be invited to everything.

Poop jokes, gay rights, no kids, yes dogs? You’re REALLY my kind of girl!

I really like the bowties or regular ties they make for dogs. The link below has one example, but you can probably find better (or less Christmasy).

They look like Maltese! I had three growing up and they were so much a part of the family. One of the best parts… they don’t shed! As someone who is allergic to all things shedding (including guinnea pigs, just ask my fourth grade class - horror), I have issues with people who include their shedding animals while clothes shopping or at outdoor restaurants (I live in New York), but this is YOUR wedding! People who are there to support your decision to marry should accept that the pups are a part of your life together.

Sidenote - neither of my venues would allow animals and I think its great that you’ve found a place to incorporate them…. makes the location all the more you!

we had children and dogs - we have all little girls in family, and our dogs are boys. Crisis averted! Brutus and bubba were our ring bearers. At first we got the stink eye, but at the wedding everyones hearts melted. Brutus stole my bouquet, the photog got an AMAZING photo! They didnt wear outfits, just bowties ;)

I’m doing a number of somewhat nontraditional things on my wedding day. Each time I come up with a new inspiration, I try to consider whether it will actually *offend* any of my guests, or if they’ll just find it a little odd. Depending on where it falls on that spectrum, I carefully weigh how much the idea means to me. But if it’s worth it, and my fiance is on board, then it’s full steam ahead. Anyone who wants to make snide comments will be ignored, because I’ve already determined the value of that particular idea.

Oh, and your dogs are adorable :) If my cat weren’t so darn ornery, I’d totally try to include her on our (completely and totally childfree) day.

Your dogs are so adorable! :) Look at those faces! :) We’d love to have our dogs participate, but it’s not an option for us, sadly. I’m sure they’ll do great!

We’ll have our dogs there too - two pit bulls! His mom is still trying to talk us out of it, but how can we unite our lives without our girls there?!? :)

My friend had her lab as her ring bearer. One of the groomsmen walked him up the aisle. I think it worked because the ceremony was outside. I would be too nervous about the dog making a mess inside.
