About Mrs. Green Tea

Mr. GT thinks I’m planning an excessive amount of food for MOH-Ho’s shower, and dared me to do a post asking your opinion. I ain’t scurred! While I’m at it, I’m gonna show you the setup of it all, too.

Here is the main buffet table that will feature 10 desserts:

The Sweet Shower: Deweecious Setup : wedding bridal shower food Shower02

  1. Cupcakes
  2. Brownie bites
  3. Raspberry Truffles
  4. Palmiers
  5. Biscotti
  6. Cookies (Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, White Chocolate Macadamia)
  7. Madeleines
  8. Sugar Free Cookies (Lemon Creme and Chocolate Striped Shortbread)
  9. Apple Pie
  10. Cherry or Pumpkin Pie (still deciding, what do you think?)

I’m reusing my wedding cake stands here. The 2 pies will be placed at the front corners of the table. I wanted to keep them low (my excuse for being too cheap to buy pie plates), and I know I’ve got issues but I just looove those little tongs!

The Sweet Shower: Deweecious Setup : wedding bridal shower food Shower03 Those extra little tags from the invite suite will label the desserts:

The Sweet Shower: Deweecious Setup : wedding bridal shower food Shower04 Then there’s the cotton candy and chocolate fountain station, which will be manned by MOH-Ho’s homeboy:

The Sweet Shower: Deweecious Setup : wedding bridal shower food Shower05 Chocolate fountain dip items include:

  1. Strawberries
  2. Pineapple
  3. Marshmallows
  4. Pretzels
  5. Graham crackers

and y’all know how much I dig that chocolate fountain!

Third table will serve 5 drinks (Thermos is a photo stand-in for a carafe):

The Sweet Shower: Deweecious Setup : wedding bridal shower food Shower07

  1. 2% Milk
  2. Raspberry Lemonade Vodka
  3. Cream Soda
  4. Coffee
  5. Bottled Water (for ease to take-along upon departure)

The Sweet Shower: Deweecious Setup : wedding bridal shower food Shower08 I did special labels for each drink (again, matching the invites):

There will be around 25 (plus or minus a couple) people at this shower. As a huge boofay fan, I really wanted to provide a good variety of desserts. I’ll also be providing to-go bags for guests to take food home. One highlight of a recent convo between Mr. GT and I on this topic went down like this:

Mr. GT: AND 2 pies?! No pies! You don’t need the pies! Plus no one eat pies without ice cream!
Me: Ooo! I should do an ice cream station too then, with a toppings buffet!
Mr. GT: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
(for the sake of my marriage, I’m forgoing the ice cream station)

I have quite a bit of detail to be added to this basic set up. But before we get to that post, will you be our judge and tell us if you think I’m overdoing things and should be beaten by the starving children in China; OR if I’m simply doing the word buffet justice? (Or if you think I’m underestimating it all and must add the ice cream station, I’d like to hear that too.)

hahah. You guys are so cute. I think that if this is “all” the food you’re going to provide then no it’s not too much.
I think all the set up is sooo cute! So sweet of you to be doing all this!

oh my goodness, that sounds amazing! I want to come! It looks like it is going to be the perfect shower! Tell Mr. GT that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about… girls love sweets!

My first inclination is that you’re going a TAD overboard, but I guess it depends on what time of day the shower will be. I just did a baby shower at 3 p.m., and everyone seemed happy with just cake, cookies, punch, fruit salad and a nut mix.

That said, I totally want to come to this shower. You rock, Green Tea.

Sounds lovely - but I would nix the pies - everything else is bitesize and goes together so well - people can use cookies for the chocolate station, etc. But the pie is random and doesn’t flow well with the rest of the desserts… and is definitely not necessary.

Can I come to this party? I think I too have the gift of excessive provision. And I think that’s how parties SHOULD be done - where there is MORE than enough for everyone! So awesome.

I vote for the ice cream station but I also refuse to believe that it’s possible to have too much food at something like this :-p

What Mr. Green Tea doesn’t understand is that since it seems you’ll only be serving dessert, you need to fill up your guest’s normal stomach AND their betsubara(a Japanese word for the 2nd stomach that women have especially for dessert).

Everything sounds delicious. I do think lara bee makes a point that everything is bite sized besides the pies. Maybe you can do little pies, like at Mrs. Cherry Pie’s wedding. But I would eat pie no matter what size…big or small. Just an idea.

I just threw a party in the early to mid afternoon to avoid having starving guests and they still ate me out of house and home. I was super grateful that I had planned what I thought was too much food. I would definitely say you’re right on. You always want to veer on the side of excess when it comes to food at a party. Plus, people like different things….variety is the spice of life….I definitely don’t think it’s too much! (and if you want to make pie’s bite size, bake them in muffin tins-works like a charm and still pretty easy). My only suggestion is that you have one or two things that aren’t as sweet. Is anyone diabetic? Even if they’re not diabetic, some people react differently to sugar. Maybe a bowl of nuts?

We had a party last weekend, and up until about 9 PM, the Mr. kept insisting that we had too much food. Suddenly though, there was very little food left, and the Mr. was well into his drinks, and everything turned out perfect.

The moral of the story? Don’t worry about having too much food. You’ll be fine. And people love to take home leftovers.

I’m also in the camp of thinking “if there’s too much food, then I did my job!” I never want people to feel like they can’t take some of whatever’s being offered. Food = love to me, for sure.

It looks great, though! :)

That sounds amazing!! And I definitely don’t think you’re going to have too much food, especially if you’re going to let people bring it all home with them.
