Miss Rainbow's Picture
Miss Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!

A Little Slice of Heaven

This post is dedicated to cake, sweet cake. I LOVE wedding cakes. Not necessarily what’s inside (I don’t really like cake, more on that later), but the beautiful, delicate, gorgeous outside. Needless to say, as soon as the FI and I were engaged, the cake hunt had begun. I scoured pages and pages of wedding cakes before we chose “the one”. Here are a few of my favorites:

The repressed prepster in me fell hard over this plaid confection

Le GateauxA stunning cake can be the piece de resistance of your reception. Hundreds of handmade Victorian sugar roses create a delicate border around this square cake. Fluted embossed fondant and gold sugar cording complete each tier. Cake by April Reed Cake Design; format tray by CB2.

I drooled all over the keyboard thanks to this fondant covered Victorian beauty

Square CakeA traditional white cake gets a modern makeover, with bold silver and gold fondant scrollwork on each tier, and a sleek square shape.Cake, $12 per slice, Cheryl Kleinman Cakes, (718) 237-2271See more silver and gold details

Square tiers, regal scroll work, how can you say no?

Seriously, macarons? Picking up my jaw now.

How amazing does this look in all of its unfrosted glory?

Can you guess which one we chose?

@Ms Potato Chips: How did you know?! The guy on top is so “Lumber Jack Chic”, which is exactly what we’re going for! ;)

I think macaroons might win out.

I would totally do the unfrosted one - so cute, and I hate frosting! I perennially love the Martha one, too. :)

I love that first Martha cake, even though I’m not a huge fan of pink!

I’d have to say either the Square tiers, with regal scroll work or the Martha one. These are all pretty cool!

I love the unfrosted one! That is totally awesome, because frosting gets all over EVERYTHING! You could even have a “dress the cake” buffet with a bunch of different toppings/ frostings for those who would not *dare* to eat cake dry.

I really like the square cake with the scroll work! Although, I’m much more for the simple decorations and some high quality buttercream icing :)
