Ms Potato Chips's Picture
Ms. Potato Chips, Boston/Narragansett RI Age and Occupation: 29, PhD Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Personal Trainer/Business Owner/Physical Therapy Assistant Engagement Date: January 1, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Narragansett Towers About Me: A semi-professional bookworm, if I could be a literary character I’d be a cross between Jo March and Jane Eyre, only better accessorized and much lazier. My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.
About Ms Potato Chips

Wedding flowers? Do.not.care.

No, seriously, I couldn’t tell a petunia from a peony.

Can’t we just grab whatever from the garden?

You pick, Mom, and I’m sure they’ll be fine.

The hell is a ranunculus?

Huh. This magazine about wedding flowers looks cool. Guess I’ll flip through it.

Um, what are these ruffly, squishable plump pillows of loveliness?

Uhh.mah.gawww. So pretty! So fat! So lush! I want to eat them!!

Peonies! I wonder if they available in June?

I MUST HAVE PEONIES!!!

PEONIES EVERYWHERE!!!!

Look, when it comes down to it, the only thing that matters to me are PEONIES. Everywhere!!!!!

Uh, P.Chips? You might want to take it down it down a notch. You’re getting a little weird about the peonies.

In a word? YES!

When I started planning, I told myself that the groom, the venue, and the dress were the only super important things to me.

Unfortunately, when I started looking at ideas for things I thought I’d never care about (flowers, cakes, cake stands, STDs, invitations, etc) I inevitably found cute personal touches I had to have. Whoops.

Miss Chips, you might also take a look at old fashioned cabbage roses. Bellenga just posted about them elsewhere, with pics. Peonies and garden roses look very similar. IOW, Gor-Juss!

Oh Ms. Potato Chips, your post made me laugh! I am slowly evolving to care more about flowers, and your little monologue definitely reminded me of myself! At first I had NO CLUE about flowers - but looking at pics here on Wedding Bee and on the internet are starting to give me a clue about what might be nice. Really though, any bouquet will look nice (or at least that is what I tell myself!).

I also have been noticing peonies as of late - as a fellow June bride, did you find out if they were available?

I also really like green hydrangeas…uh oh, maybe I care more than my nonchalant note seems to admit!

Oh so humorous. I would love to know how to go through wedding planning without new ‘obsessions’.

Oh my gosh, I rarely comment on WB, but you pretty much wrote exactly what I went through with flowers on my wedding day!

Peonies are not in season when I had my wedding in January. My awesome wedding coordinator happened to be at Bristol Farms 2 days before my wedding and found some pink ones - my wedding color! It was amazing!

So I know exactly how you feel!

I am so with you on going from knowing nothing about flowers to being peony-obsessed! FYI, the first photo you posted is actually a bouquet of cabbage roses. I’ve been obsessed with that bouquet too and also originally thought it was peonies. Good thing for me though, because peonies are out of season for my wedding but cabbage roses are not! :)

Your post made me laugh out aloud. I swear, Weddingbee could be it’s own economic stimulus package. Before I joined, I had no idea about some now obsessions:

* Contemporary Vintage Engagement Shoots
* Boudoir Photo Shoots
* Letterpress Invites (eco-friendly)
* Birdcage veils

I think I’ve gone through this exact same set of stages. At first I was all, “Screw flowers. Want more CAKE.”

Now I sing a different tune.

I’ve always had a thing for peonies. Always. Before I even know what they were called. Specifically pink peonies… any shade of pink. I <3 peonies so much. So, I love the photos you posted.

Many new obsessions, including flowers. Cake. Chairs. Tablecloths. Hor’s d’oeuvre. Peonies are gorgeous, but I second taking a look at garden roses.

Hey, when it’s about peonies, that conversation is necessary. Those things are absolutely gorgeous.

I’ve done the same thing–there were things I really cared about during the planning process that I never would have noticed before. I had a minor meltdown because I thought that our venue only had white napkins instead of ivory napkins. Thankfully, I was wrong (we got the ivory), but a year before I would have never even noticed the difference between white and ivory napkins!

I love Peonies too! I met with a florist today and he actually said, “I get it, you like the Peonies”. Yes I do. I want them in my bouquet.

I’m getting married in July and 3 different florists have told me different stories of when Peonies are in season. I don’t care as long as my bouquet has Peonies in it.
