Flowers, Part 1

October 14th, 2009 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Moonbeam

I went to an HEB Plus while I was down in Texas. It’s like the Super Target of Texas. They have a floral department, so I took a look around and saw these gorgeous wildflower looking bouquets. They had celosia, sunflowers, mums, thistle and some other things. There were oranges, deep pinks, yellows, the brown centers of the sunflowers, and basically most of our large color palette. There were loads of different textures as well, and I was smitten.

So I set up an appointment with a lady in their floral department and said I want lots of that (pointing to bouquet) please. And to make things even better, the flowers were from a local grower and were in season in October, so I had high hopes that they (or something similar) would be in season in November.

See, I love celosia. It’s so pretty, even all by its lonesome.

Well, I got an email later that day, and none of the flowers we had discussed were going to be in season. It urns out that the local farm wouldn’t be growing anything by then. I was so bummed, I hadn’t even known what celosia was, but now I love it.

What is a bride to do?

that’s so disappointing! The celosia is really pretty. Have you asked around to other local grocers? I ordered all my flowers through a local grocery store and while not all of them were cheap and in season, they were able to get almost anything I asked for!

I didn’t know what a celosia was until this post, but I agree—so pretty! Is there anything that looks like it? I’m no good with flowers, sorry!

Hmmm, I agree with LatteLove — any other grocers in the area that you could check? Or, maybe email the original grocer back and see if they will have anything available at all that you like? Good luck!

Check with a florist and also on the internet. You should be able to find them…..celosia is ALWAYS grown somewhere all of the time.
