Mrs. Champagne's Picture
Miss Champagne, DC/Vail/Colorado Age and Occupation: 26, Eye Doctor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Attorney Engagement Date: March 13, 2006 Wedding Date: February 2009 Blogging Since: July 30, 2008 Venue: Small church ceremony with mountain-view log cabin reception About Me: I'm a small town mountain girl with a city heart. Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. I use way too many repeated symbols and letters when I write, and I'll love Mr. Champagne endlessly…

Champ Wedding—Becoming the Bride

October 15th, 2009 @ 4:08 pm by Mrs. Champagne

While the guys took portraits in the parking lot, we were hustling to be on time. Champ always teases me about the fact that I am always, without a question, 15 minutes late to everything. We even joked about changing the ceremony time so I wouldn’t be late, but I was determined to show him I could be on time for once. My mom grabbed my dress and we took what could be the most awkward series of photos from the day.

Our first mistake occurred before we would even think about it.

My dress was completely sideways as I tried to get it on, and it only got worse.

My perfectly curled hair got caught on my zipper and all I could think was, ‘oh God, please don’t let my clip-in extensions slide out.’

I worked so hard to match the color of the piece to my hair and all I could picture was a little wig clip-in stuck to my zipper dangling down my back as I walked down the aisle. Not your classic “blushing bride” moment.

Note to brides wearing your hair down: think about the execution of putting on your dress before starting the process!

We finally got it straightened out, and headed downstairs to zip her up.

When my brother and sister-in-law were married, I remember her mom zipping up her dress and it being such a special moment between the two of them. In fact, some of the bees have had such cute photos taken and moments captured while putting on their dress. Unfortunately for me, it would take a small army to zip up my dress, as it was practically painted on. So instead of “ooohs” and “aahs” it was “dude, you’re going to need to suck in a little more” and, “oh man, did that hurt? I think I got some skin with the zipper”.

We finally got the dress on, and it was time for flowers! One step closer to the church… breathe…

Thanks, mom. :)

My cousin passed the bouquets, and everything was starting to come together! The morning of the wedding I got a call from our florist that the peonies in the bridesmaid bouquets would have to be replaced because they arrived and they were orange, not red. I was a little disappointed, but thought they were beautiful anyway.

I was seriously in love with my bouquet. It was all ivory peonies and it was perfect!

Dressed and ready, it was time to head downstairs for a few photos and a ride to the church.

can i ask why brides always put the dress over their head… i would have thought it would be eaiser to step into the dress…. baring in mind i wore a sarong & bikini for my wedding & never tried on a gown so maybe theres a reason someone can explain.

either way - *sigh* you look beautiful!!!!

You look so gorgeous! I was able to step into my dress, so I always laugh a little when I see other people trying to get theirs over their heads. I would have ruined my hair, makeup and dress!

my MOH threatened to make me wear a pillowcase over my head while my dress went on so it wouldn’t get makeup on it….I’m not sure which would have been worse!

You look gorgeous, and I love how they wrapped your bouquet!

You look incredible! I totally would have broken down if my florist called me like that - though the bouquets do look great so you obviously handled it very well!

@eloping: I wish I could’ve stepped into my dress but the waist wouldn’t fit because of my big child-bearing hips. They don’t lie.
@Laylabelle: ask your florist if they can do a single wrap. Mine was one piece of fabric and I have NO IDEA how she made it look so pretty!

Your dress is incredible, and everything else was so lovely too. You, your hair and the flowers. Love it, and thanks for the laugh with this post. I’m sure I will have a similar ordeal getting into my dress, I have no illusions that it will be romantic or anything other than awkward and funny.
