Sprinkle Secret Honeymoon Story 1

October 15th, 2009 @ 6:13 pm by Mrs. Sprinkle

Hi my name is Sprinkle, I got married a month ago and I am finally ready to talk about it all! Let’s start with the honeymoon, move on to some budget goodness/nonsense, follow it up with another project or two, throw in some advice and then… well, by then I should have my pro photos and I can pop out some stellar wedding day recaps! The problem is, I have nothing to say and so much time! No, scratch that, reverse it…

I know that you all have just been dyinnnnng to know where we went on our honeymoon (well, I am sure you aren’t literally dying to know, but there has to be at least a few people who are still curious, right?!). So, here it is! Writing about the honeymoon was fun for me, and I hope it is for you to read as well.

Our honeymoon started out just like any other. Our flight was at midnight the day after the wedding, so we were able to sleep in as late as we wanted on Sunday, and use the rest of the time to straighten the house and pack. Our house was a disaster…

Boxes everywhere, leftover wedding favors and stuff piled high. Our fridge was loaded to capacity with leftover wedding appetizers and rehearsal dinner food, too! Once we got everything sorted out, we gathered our suitcases (way too many, I am a horribly heavy packer) and headed over to LAX.

After a slight snafu at the Delta counter (we bought our tickets from Expedia, and for a few minutes they could not find our seats!) we headed into the terminal to wait for our plane. At this point we were super giddy and still on an incredible wedding high. About an hour into our five hour flight that giddiness was gone and we were struggling to get a little bit of shut-eye. Mr. Sprinkle managed to take a nap, but I just can’t sleep on planes.

By the time we landed in Atlanta for our layover, we were exhausted. We hopped on that cool underground train thing and made it from terminal A to D in about 30 seconds. We found a cozy corner and I laid down on a padded bench with my “borrowed” Delta blankets for a little nap. I had just fallen asleep when Mr. S started to shake me awake in a panic. I was in a half sleeping state when I heard the words “wallet” and “missing”, which certainly woke me up quickly. See, Mr. S went to purchase a few hours of internet time when he realized that his wallet was not in my purse where we had last seen it.

We went through every bag twice, even searched the linings of our jackets, shook out the blankets, but no, the wallet was GONE. So he hopped on the tram back to terminal A to see if anyone found it on the plane, while I sat there and tried to stay calm (which was relatively easy since I was too exhausted to move!).

Long story short, we found ourselves on a teeny tiny plane two hours later with everything but the wallet. We don’t know if it was lost or dropped or stolen, but we will definitely never see it again. So, it was 6 hours into our honeymoon and we had already lost a moderate amount of cash, Mr. Sprinkle’s only form of ID and his bank cards. Luckily, we have been sharing a bank account for a few years, so we were able to access everything we needed with my ATM card. Sadly, we realized we might not make it into a few of the cool bars and breweries we wanted to check out, since Mr. S had no way to prove he was indeed over 21 (unless they count a big scruffy beard as proof!). It wasn’t the best start to our honeymoon, but certainly a memorable one.

Our little plane finally touched down at 11 AM local time, which was 8 AM LA time… we hadn’t slept in 30 hours, we were missing a wallet, and we still had an hour long drive and a three hour wait before we could check in to our B&B. But none of that mattered because we were officially married and officially in the wonderful state of… Virginia!

’Cause Virginia is for lovers, right? Actually, we ended up in Virginia (and another state) for several reasons… find out in the next installment of the Sprinkle Secret Honeymoon Story. :)

Oh man, Mr. MB lost his wallet in Canada once, it’s such a horrible feeling. Amazingly it got sent back to us by a mountie (or some other Canadian officer) a lot was missing, but he got his ID and some other things back. Hope the honeymoon gets better after this.

Terrible! My question is, how could he get on the plane or do any travelling without ID?

Extreme panic would have set in for me too. I’m sorry to hear about the wallet! But I am excited to hear all about the B&B. I grew up and went to college in VA, so I am curious as to where you stayed. It’s beautiful in the mountains in the fall!
