Wedding Pizza

October 15th, 2009 @ 1:04 pm by Ms Potato Chips

Potato Head & I have a thing with pizza. We could eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and brunch. Especially brunch. One of our first wedding brainstorms was to figure out a way to serve up some ‘za at the wedding, like this gorgeous couple:

pizza1

pizza2

Source

I love the simplicity of the long table featuring a dozen or so wood-fired thin-crust cheesy pies. We figured we could incorporate fancy toppings, like goat cheese or prosciutto or figs…

Voila: A new category is coined. Wedding Pizza, i.e., somewhere between snarfing down a slice of four of Papa’s in your jammies on a Sunday night and having to use a knife and fork.

Next up: convincing my parents that pizza is appropriate for a wedding and searching for a caterer who will accommodate us!

How do you feel about Wedding Pizza? Be they hamburgers or caviar, were your favorite foods incorporated into your wedding?

Yes yes yes! I saw that wedding on Style Me Pretty when it was first featured. We almost went that route, and even tried this amazing wood-fired, Neapolitan pizza… until the venue fell through and it turned out the restaurant didn’t cater anyway, contrary to what their website said.

I think wedding pizza is awesome, especially when you serve Neapolitan-style pizza, which is somehow more elegant in my mind. One thing we worried about (before we changed our minds) was transporting the pizza, since it’s best fresh from the oven and I doubt many venues could do wood-fired oven on-site.

pizza can be really gourmet, esp with adding different toppings, like you mentioned! Also, I don’t know why but square pizzas look more modern & formal to me :) I would search for pictures of really pretty pizzas to show your parents that they can be perfect for a wedding!

Sounds amazing - and if they can serve “gourmet pizza” in fancy restaurants, why shouldn’t you have it at your wedding??

Your flavor ideas sound fab. I’m sure you can find someone who does this… can’t wait to see!

That sounds fantastic. When I lived in Seattle, there was a guy with a wood fired oven on a trailer and he would go to farmers markets and cater people’s parties. I went to a fancy christmas party he catered and it was delish.

Since my FI was a pizza delivery driver through college (you’ve got to pay the bills somehow!) we’ll be serving pizza as our midnight snack! We think it’ll be a fun cheer to our past life as lazy college students (eating greasy pizza in our pjs after a fun night at the bar) and our guests will love the late-night snack:)
We <3 pizza too!

If I was a guest, this would be my favorite wedding ever! We are thinking of ordering some pizzas toward the end of the party to fuel our dance crazy guests since we plan on serving dinner so early (5 ish.)

I’ve ALWAYS believed that a a wedding should be a reflection of the bride and groom - not the wedding vendors or future in-laws… I think this idea is just perfect!

We’re both strict vegetarians and I’m a natural food chef, so needles to say - the food has been at the top of our discussion list since day 1

We decided early on that all the food we pay for (rehearsal dinner, reception and brunch the next day) will be vegetarian - a true reflection of us and our beliefs.

We really thought about what would make everybody happy while still sticking to our guns, and we came up with:

Fancy Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup! We’ll use fresh herbs, great cheese and really good tomatoes to dress it up

Bravo to this lovely couple!

I went to a wedding once that had a buffet with traditional wedding food on it, and then later that night, just before the reception ended, they brought out mini personal sized pizzas. the late night snack was fun and so yummy! it was one of the most memorable things about that wedding! LOVE wedding pizza!

Love love love pizza and yes, I live right in New Haven for all the famous Modern, Pepe’s and Sally’s pizza. We will be offering it up for our post wedding brunch (Mother’s Day) to guests who want to hang out with us the day after the formal affair. Fiance’s family is from the UK and what a great way to introduce them to the likes of New Haven, CT then with a pizza brunch. If you can have it at your wedding, go for it!

Yummy pizza!! We are having to incorporate brownies because its the FH’s favorite dessert. :) So I thought we would do a smaller cake (for the tradition) and a brownie bar with all types!

I think it’s a great idea! I went to an opening in San Fran where they had a pizza ‘truck’ come in - they planted their clay oven outside and served fresh little pizzas to everyone. It was fantastic and so much better than some typical catering food. You can definitely dress up a pizza dinner if you want, or keep it casual. Everyone loves pizza!

i was at that wedding last september and the pizza was delicious! and the couple is amazing and the wedding was as wonderful as the pictures make it look! go for the wedding pizza (if i had my way, we would have had wedding burritos, but alas, our venue did not have them on the menu as an option).

DO IT! (the pizza, that is)

Loverboy’s best friend got married in June and they had wedding pizza!! They ordered gourmet pizza (I had no idea there was such a thing) and it was excellent! Plus - there were some leftovers that we got to eat at the newlywed’s apartment after they got back from their honeymoon!

Mmmm wedding pizza. Be careful–you may have a bunch of crasher-bees at your wedding who are hungry for pizza! ^_^

Preeeeetty sure my future in-laws wouldn’t go for this (well, maybe FFIL would, but it would have to be Valentino’s ^_^)–I’m not even sure if I’ve convinced Mr Spin that grilling out would be the best rehearsal dinner EVAH. Ah well. ^_^

We are serving just such pizza at our wedding in 1.5 weeks! Only for us, it will replace the ’salad’ course. Each person will have the option to choose from margarita, percorrino & pear and one other deliciously wood-fired personal size pies.

Can’t wait! Who likes the leafy greens anyway, right?

We just got married in Sept in Seattle and used Veraci Pizza (I’m sure the one Miss Moonbeam is speaking about) and it was fantastic - guests raved about it. Veraci actually provided us with really amazing appetizers, pizzas (we picked the toppings and then they made pizzas based on what the crowd wanted/was eating) and then we had dessert pizzas too - they were the BEST!!!! Smores pizza, pear & gorgonzola, nutella and banana, raspberry & mango, cinnamon & sugar - delicious! :)

What about serving pizza as a late-night munchy? That’s what we’re doing, at about 11 (reception ends at 11:30) we’re having about a dozen pizza’s delivered and they’ll be sliced up and served…yum!

I would eat the crap out of some wedding pizza! The only thing that we had at our wedding that was really “us” was carrot cake from a local bakery. You should do whatever you can to have pizza - it’d be amazing! Who doesn’t like pizza?

Gotta’ love it!

Tell the caterer no soupy or loose toppings though. (It is a courtesty to everyone who has to eat in public while wearing fancy clothes — trust me!)

Tip: some cheeses make better “glue” than others. I endorse goat cheeses myself.

Never seen it done but it’s an excellent idea. Most people love pizza and other comfort food rather than alot of “gourmet” food that is served at weddings. As long as it’s yummy and it appeals to your guests, it shouldn’t matter it is. Really, who cares if someone else thinks it’s “cheap”, especially if they aren’t invited? Those opinions don’t matter so do whatever you love that fits you.

After going to 9 weddings last summer, our final wedding of the season was in october and it was the 10th wedding we had been too. We were sick of chicken, fish and beef. When they started setting up for dinner we saw that it was buffet style and they had note cards of what would be there. My bff and I went to look it over. We saw the cards of “cheese” “pepperoni” and “sausage”. We and the rest of our crew started to freak out because we definitely thought that this was the most fantastic idea ever!! So I say do it!!!
