Mrs. French Bulldog's Picture
Mrs. French Bulldog, Orange County Age and Occupation: 28, Administrative Assistant & Interior Design Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Purchasing Analyst Engagement Date: November 8, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2009 Venue: Bernardo Winery About Me: I've lived in Atlanta, Dallas and Laguna Niguel; although I've lived in Orange County, CA most my life, I'm a Southerner at heart. I work full time for a Commercial General Contractor (aka my father) and I go to school for Interior Design at night. I love modern design, music, wine, crafting, DMailing, my family, my Westies, and of course, Mr Frenchie! Mr Frenchie and I met 3 years ago on Match.com and have been best friends ever since. I love his "old soul" and how he laughs with his whole body, among many other things. We are planning our summer wedding at the winery near his hometown, just 45 minutes south of Orange County.
About Mrs. French Bulldog

Mr Frenchie and I both agree that our last day in Vermont was the BEST day of our honeymoon.

When we knew we’d be starting and ending our honeymoon in Vermont, Mr Frenchie tried to find a way for us to boat around Lake Champlain… in hopes of seeing Champ. Sea Monsters have been an inside joke between Mr Frenchie and I since we started dating, and the Vermont U-Haul seems to follow us wherever we go.

Mr Frenchie found a lake cruise called The Spirit of Ethan Allen III. We took the “Lunch-On-The-Lake Cruise” - a 1 1/2 Hour narrated cruise with buffet. Mr Frenchie LOVES buffets!

… And bloody marys. It was a gorgeous day and we saw and learned at lot about Lake Champlain.

For instance, did you know that the whole lake freezes over in the winter? YEP, so much so that you can drive on it to go ice fishing! I wouldn’t recommend that though. According to our tour guide, if your car falls in the lake, the State of Vermont gives you one day to get it out or they do it for you and send you the bill. Plus, that kind of thing is NOT covered by car insurance companies.

Sadly, we didn’t see Champ. Although, The Spirit of Ethan Allen did see him back in 1984, but we think it was too bright outside for Champ that day.

Next we drove over to Shelburne Vineyard. The vineyard had recently relocated to a new building, it was so new that they were still planting new vines out front.

Having been wine tasting in Napa, Temecula, and Rancho Bernardo, I wasn’t expecting to be tasting alone. It was, however, a Wednesday, so that could explain why we had the whole winery to ourselves. If I remember correctly, we sampled about 9 wines, including my first ice wine. As you can imagine, I don’t see too much ice in Orange County, CA, so ice wine isn’t very common.

This is the last picture I have of our trip in Vermont because my battery died. Mr Frenchie was able to turn the camera on long enough to grab a shot of me in front of the winery before it died.

Since I lack photographic evidence, you will have to believe when I tell you we went to Shelburne Farms last for cheese tasting. It happened, I promise! We even bought some yummy mustard!

And that is the Frenchiemoon in a nutshell!

We took the same tour last week on our Vermont honeymoon, including the Lunch on the Lake. We also liked the story about Dunder Rock and seeing the rocky face in the cliffside. My guy was convinced we’d spot the elusive Champ too (we, of course, did not), but the tasty buffet made him smile nonetheless.

Ice wine sounds pretty cool! I’ll have to see if I can find some around here. ;)

what a great time of year to be in VT! And the driving on the ice is so true! We passed by one winter in college on our way to a week long snowboarding trip (my first and last - I’m not into snow!)

I grew up on the opp. side of the lake in Plattsburgh and have also taken trips on the Ethan Allen and to the Shelburne..you should’ve checked out the Ben and Jerry’s factory. I loved seeing all about your trip…I loved that you also got to try poutine while in Montreal.

Thanks ladies :) I loved sharing our trip with you all!
@bluebutterfly: I really wanted to go to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory, but Mr Frenchie is lactose intolerant and I thought it would be mean to take hahaha So I got a scope at a B&J store instead one afternoon when he got Starbucks. He said if we go back to Burlington we can go to Ben & Jerrys :)

Love the recap! We also spent some time in VT for our honeymoon, I’d suggest the Vermont Teddy Bear factory (and tour), as well as Ben & Jerry’s if you get to go back! We ordered a teddy bear with custom paw pads that has our names and wedding date embroidered on them, he’s adorable!

PS: I grew up snowmobiling (and watching car races on the ice), so it was sort of funny to hear you speak of the lake freezing over - it’s a normal occurrence for us in the NE!
