Mrs. Sea Breeze's Picture
Mrs. Sea Breeze, Vancouver/Dominican Republic Age in 2008 and Occupation: 30, Communications Manager Fiance's Age in 2008 and Occupation: 29, Experiential Marketing Director Engagement Date: October 6, 2007 Wedding Date: November, 2008 Blogging Since: July 17, 2008 Venue: Majestic Colonial Resort, Punta Cana About Me: Planning a destination wedding by the sea should be (oh no she di-in't…) a breeze (…*sigh* yep, she did) but when you've never been to the Caribbean, your powers of imagination are really put to the test. Luckily, I'm 90% resourceful, creative optimist (and kooky, neurotic practicalist-if-that's-a-word for the other ten). Other than writing about our week-long celebration of family, friends, laughter and love, I adore books, shoes and… you guessed it… long walks on the beach.
About Mrs. Sea Breeze

Yoo hooooo! Remember me? If not, I don’t blame you; it’s been almost… gah!… six months since you last heard from me. Where does the time go?!

I’ve missed you guys! And I’m sorry, I have no good excuse for leaving you hanging. Let’s just say that those people who say that things get even busier post-wedding than they were pre-wedding are not kidding. But that’s a post for another day.

It’s hard to believe but this past weekend marked one month until the Breezys’ one year wedding anniversary (can you believe it? I can’t!) and, well, there’s nothing like a looming deadline to get this gal back in the recap saddle. I still have a few stories to share, so I hope you’ll join me as I whisk you back to our destination wedding extravaganza in Punta Cana. If you’d like to get caught up or refresh your memory, please see the bottom of this post for the first half of the DW in the DR recaps.

I last left you with a look at our ugly-but-delicious wedding cake… smushed all over our faces. Though to us, that wasn’t horrific, it was hilarious. I’ll tell you what was horrific though – the time.

As the cake was being passed around, Mr Breezy and I realized––with no thanks to our so-called wedding coordinator who had disappeared, never to be seen again––that we were way behind schedule. Yikes!

After some scurrying, we somehow got everyone moving and installed at the disco we had booked for our private party, ready with a drink in their hands to await our entrance.

Of course, as with many things in this destination wedding, this entrance turned out to be a wholly fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants affair. With our wedding party scattered all over the globe, it had been impossible to do much planning and rehearsing of anything. But we weren’t worried – we knew our friends would step up to the task.

The only thing we planned was the entrance music. It was Mr Breezy’s one request and, well, I was so done with music picking at that point, I said, “OK fine, whatever.” Which is how we ended up walking into our reception party to the lovely musical sounds of… the Austin Powers theme song.

SIL and our opera star Mattie were first and set the bar high with a little spin and twirl action.

Not to be outdone, Miss P and JW did a dramatic dip.

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 3 3

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 4 4

And how do you top that? Well, if you’re MOH Pepperpot, you do it by spankin’ some toosh… to whoops of appreciation from the audience.

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 5 5

If you knew the recipient of that spankin’, you’d be laughing too. It was a sight none of us ever guessed we’d see in our lifetime.

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 6 6

Finally it was our turn. Hooray! Here we come!

As you can see, I had so many other things on my mind, I hadn’t thought to bustle my dress so I was still carrying it around.

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 7 7

Whoa what’s that up on the screen ahead of us? Oh, nothing… just another totally-unplanned-but-somehow-got-thrown-together-at-the-last-second detail: a photo slideshow that had been playing for everyone while they waited for us. I was completely surprised to see it but had no time to think about it just then.

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 8 8

It was time for a spin!

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 9 9

And a dip!

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 10 10

And for a spontaneous jive competition during which we looked like the dorky fools-in-love we are.

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 11 11

The only problem was, we hadn’t edited the song! So the Austin Powers nightmare theme kept going… and going… and going… and so did we, until someone took pity on us and faded it out.

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 12 12

Whew! That was crazy fun but exhausting, yo!

DW in the DR: Let’s Get This Party (Re)Started : wedding pictures pro pics recap 13 13

At least our guests were entertained.

Next: Time to say a few words.

Thanks to Photophil Steingard and Michael Steingard for snapping our ridiculousness so that we may remember forever that sometimes, it’s more fun to be spontaneous.

I’m having a destination wedding next month and it’s nice to see someone’s real experiences with it! I keep telling myself that I really, really won’t be upset with the many things that can (and probably will!) go wrong : ). But I’m sure there will be a meltdown in there somewhere…
