January Wedding - A Song!

October 19th, 2009 @ 5:19 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

I am obsessed with a band. My sister, my mom, my husband, my friends, my town, my state are all obsessed with a band. They are called “The Avett Brothers” and they speak directly to the core of my being. They have impacted my life, made me feel things deeper, and taught me about family and love and life.

They just came out with a new album called “I and Love and You” and the #2 song on the new CD is called January Wedding. I wanted to share it with all of the January brides. It would be such a great first dance song.

We played a ton of their music at our wedding. If you are not familiar with the band, then I have a few requests:

  1. Listen to the lyrics… they will move you
  2. Listen to these songs first: If It’s The Beaches, The Offering, When I Drink, November Blue, I and Love and You, and then listen to every single other song!

Lyrics to “January Wedding” by The Avett Brothers:

She keeps it simple
And I am thankful for her kind of lovin’
’Cause it’s simple

No longer do we wonder if we’re together
We’re way past that
And I’ve already asked her
So in January we’re gettin’ married

She’s talkin’ to me with her voice
Down so low I barely hear her
But I know what she’s sayin’
I understand because my heart and hers are the same
And in January we’re gettin’ married

And I was sick with heartache
And she was sick like Audrey Hepburn when I met her
But we would both surrender
True love is not the kind of thing you should turn down
Don’t ever turn it down

I hope that I don’t sound to insane when I say
There is darkness all around us
I don’t feel weak but I do need sometimes for her to protect me
And reconnect me to the beauty that I’m missin’
And in January we’re gettin’ married

No longer does it matter what circumstances we were born in
She knows which birds are singin’
And the names of the trees where they’re performin’ in the mornin’
And in January we’re gettin’ married
Come January let’s get married

Have you found your first dance song? Did you choose it because the lyrics moved you, or because it was a song that was key to your relationship?

Thank you, Thank you, Simply put, Thank.you.

Love the song and everything it stands for.

Although I’m already dead set on a first dance song, this will, er, *must* be incorporated somehow. :)

And love the style of them, will check out their stuff for sure.

erm - so sad I can’t edit on this side - but I definitely have November Blue on the computer (I share it with the fam so there’s always stuff popping up in the music - we’re a very musical family)!

I’ve seen them live before! I helped plan a fest that they headlined. They’re definitely great performers.

The Avett Brothers are from the same town as me, Mt Pleasant, NC. My FI even went to school and with Seth Avett. It’s crazy how they used to just be a local thing, and now they’ve been on national television. Small world….

This song is TOTALLY Mr. Dee and I’s SONG! Ok, actually it’s “Easy Silence” by the Dixie Chicks. But seriously. I’m obsessed with Audrey Hepburn. And we’re getting married in January. Thank you for changing our lives. Thank you.

I just saw them last night in concert and you MUST see them in person if you ever get a chance. They are wildly enthusiastic, emotional, gracious, talented, upbeat, and just wonderful. Last night was the first time I ever heard their music and I was just moved by their music.

I am already planning on having “Living of Love” as a great choice for the last song of the night for my wedding.

LOVE that song!!! So fantastic! Love them in general, though. Our first dance song will be one of the most stressful things to figure out, no doubt.

I love the Avett Brothers. My hubs and I saw them about a month ago and when they played “if i get murdered in the city” and he ended with “tell my wife that I love her, tell my daughter the same… always remember there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our names” (he sang wife and daughter at the concert in stead of mother and sister)…. I totally cried. And then my husband looked over and said “I knew you were crying.’ so sweet!!
