OOT Goodies

October 19th, 2009 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Sunbeam

Our out of town bags were a labor of love, but lacked a plan of delivery! Sadly, I think half of our guests went home without them because we forgot to drop them off at the hotels, and then forgot to bring them to the reception! Luckily we were able to pass some of the baggies out, so it wasn’t a total failure of delivery! We also ended up having favors at the wedding, so hopefully everyone left with a little something.

We purchased 50 8″x 10″muslin bags online and decorated each bag with a custom stamp I had ordered from Impress Rubber Stamps of our invitation motif. Then came the fun part - filling the bags!

Each bag contained the following:

  • From a favorite vacation spot, saltwater taffy from Shrivers.
  • From San Francisco, macarons from Paulette Macarons.
  • From our hometown, nuts and wasabi peas from Here’s Howe.
  • From my childhood, wintergreen Lifesavers (I used to line my locker with the wrappers since I ate so many).
  • From my great grandma, M&Ms.
  • A map we designed that was also included in our invitations, just incase anyone forgot to bring it.
  • Bottled water.

I purchased things like the nuts and peas in bulk, I think it was something like 5-6 pounds of each, and portioned them into inexpensive sandwich bags without a zip top. I then tied the baggies closed with a piece of cotton string. Simple and easy! Here are the bags stuffed and ready to (not) be delivered!

The leftover baggies did not go to waste! We brought a few with us on our honeymoon and our parents planned to pass out the rest. Remember to delegate OOT bag delivery to someone!

Are you making OOT bags, or have you received one? What’s a favorite item that you included or received in one?

The muslin bags are great! We didn’t do OOT bags since I thought my hotel staff (I work there) mignt hate me. I did use similar bags for my bridesmaids gifts, and one of my girls uses hers for her smaller/intimate items when she travels now :)

Mrs Sunbeam - how many bottles of water fit into that 8X10 bag? i’m trying to figure out what size I’d need for at least 2 bottles.

Thanks everyone!

@Melissabegins: We only fit one into the bag and it was pretty full so I’d go with the next size up to be safe!

thank you for the advice! until today, i was stuck on the idea of kraft gift bags. I hadn’t really heard of or thought of this option, which i think fits our DW theme a little bit better. I’ll order up. Thx!

Those are great, shame they weren’t delivered, but at least you had snacks. I’m hungry.

I love OOT bags. You did a great job with those!

We’re making them, definitely.

My favorite stuff that I’ve had in OOT bags has been food and water. I’m easy to please. :p

oh dear such a pity.

we made OOT baskets and placed them in the rented serviced apartments of our guests, so no delivery issues, thankfully!

We used Gable Boxes with custom stickers and some ribbon for our OOT Boxes, but I have to agree with you… the worst part was DELIVERING them! Husband and I had guests staying at five hotels and arriving over four days. It was so painful to wake up every morning and drive all over town to drop off the boxes. If I did it again, I would probably limit the boxes to only the hotels that we had organized… discount travelers and people who didn’t want to stay where we had blocked off rooms would have missed out, if I’d only realized how long a process this would be!
