About Mrs. Gloss

Dear Wedding Industry,

October 20th, 2009 @ 5:05 pm by Mrs. Gloss

I have already been married; please stop sending me multiple daily emails. I do not need to know the ‘#1 Hot Floral Tip for Brides’, or that it has been ‘Two Months Since Your Wedding’. I have unsubscribed from your mailing lists—some that I never subscribed to in the first place—countless times, and still you ignore my requests. I have marked you as ‘SPAM’ and still you come back for more. I get really excited when my phone vibrates alerting me that I have a new email and am perpetually disappointed when I learn that it is only you.
Please leave me alone. That is all.

Here’s my ‘Hot Tip’: If I were to get married again I would make a ‘getting married email account’ and use it for all wedding sites. That way I could completely ignore you after the big day except for on the occasions where I am bored at work and actually want to wade through the countless mass emails.

xoxo

(And that goes for you too VistaPrint.)

i did just that! i have an email address that is specifically for wedding related stuff so that (1) important things like contracts don’t get lost in all my other junk mail from my regular account; and (2) vendors won’t have my personal email and bug me long after the wedding is over. :)

VistaPrint is probably the WORST. Ugh.

I did that! We made an e-mail account that we can both use, that has all our information and dates and budget etc. That way our regular e-mails aren’t getting clogged, and this one has both of our names on it.

My email address for the past several years has been first initial-middle name-maiden name. I’ve been using it for all my wedding sites, but I’ve already created my “married lady” email address.

I wish I had done that too! That should be listed as the #1 thing to do after getting engaged and before planning your wedding.

Thats what I have decided to do - the day I get married I start using the ‘other ‘ email account that I started up with gmail so that way I can keep all information in one account instead of racking all the spam/junk in my personal email

Yup. I did that after I got tons of spam on my regular email. Anything wedding related or things I won’t need after the wedding are on a separate account. Even wb.

I made a separate email account. Best. Decision. Ever.

I totally did that. It was also nice because my email was first name-last name, so if I needed someone on a message board to email me something, I didn’t have to put my (rather unique) name out there!

I wish I would have set up a separate account, but didn’t think of it until it was too late. Luckily Gmail does a pretty good job of remembering what you mark as spam, so my spam folder is filled to the brim, but I don’t have to look at it all!

I did that too. And FI has access. All our vendor communication is in one place and since we both have access, FI is more involved.

I am with you, I wish I had made an alternate email account - I will forever share this piece of info with all my bride-to-be friends!

Word. I did a separate account, which I don’t really check anymore. Thanks for reminding me to check it ;)

Not many brides know this, but your local bridal show may be the biggest culprit of email spam. So be very very careful when you go to your local show, that you have that e-mail account ready, because the companies who attend are given your information, right down to your street address and wedding date. These vendors often then sell to third parties…..
Great advice for you all. Get a wedding only account!

David’s Bridal was the worst for me. They shared my information with a bunch of other vendors too so I was getting calls and emails from places I haven’t even heard of. Gaaah!

Great tip though!

This is def. the best advice ever… just having a junk email in general, that you can read (or ignore) as you wish!

It was the second thing I did after we got engaged (right after calling my parents, grandma, & best friend/maid of honor)! Best. Decision. EVER!

I wish I’d done the same thing. Also, I wish I would not have given out my home address to some places (I don’t even know WHEN I did that) because I keep getting actual mails.

So true! I’m getting a new email anyways with my new last name, so hopefully it will be spam free. But it’s already getting on my nerves and I’m not officially married yet!

That’s a great tip about another e-mail, something I wish I did because I still get those e-mails and I’ve been married for over a year already!

Oh man, we were originally looking to get married this past august, and most of the stuff I signed up for way back when had this date. I assumed the spam would stop after august passed, but it hasn’t. Now I get pre-married and post-married spam!

we definitely made a wedding email account. SO glad I did! I also have a junk email/online retail acct that gets all the “steals and deals” emails. My personal account is very personal!

Be careful if you used VistaPrint. I did and somehow I ended up with a membership to Shopping Essentials. They were charging $16 to my credit card every month without my knowledge - such a scam!

I have an e-mail specifically designated for wedding stuff too! It’s been awesome not to have to wade through all the wedding spam- even though I do still get some in my regular e-mail (how do they find you???? they are like super sleuths!) and I even get unsolicited snail mail! *Sigh* I think I’m going to change my email once I’m married anyway, so hopefully that’ll nip it in the bud.

I have actually gotten a lot of snail mail from vendors and venues from the NY area where I live…but I’m getting married in NH. Such a waste!

mmm I wish I had thought of that. . .
It will be so much easier!
not because of the spam and stuff (gmail takes good care of those stuff and i can just ignore them)
but because I contact some vendors and my fiance others. . .but since they don’t do “reply all” I always have to forward things to him, and he has to do the same. . .it’s boring!

I had one wedding website (I won’t name names) that wouldn’t let me unsubscribe from its emails! It was so frustrating! I forget how I finally got them to stop, but I was TOTALLY annoyed.
