Miss Poodle's Picture
Miss Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Engagement Session Talk

October 20th, 2009 @ 5:53 pm by Miss Poodle

In Chile couples don’t usually do engagement photography sessions. What a bummer, huh? Since we are working on a tight budget, we decided that an engagement session was one of those things we were going to cut out in order to stay within budget. But now we’re back in the game, and the Poodles are going to have an engagement session! *happy dance*

As usual, I searched for inspiration! And what better place to start than here, in the hive! I had to show you all (in case you haven’t seen these before in the Gallery and on the Boards) some of my favorite e-pics.

First from katiebug3017: I love the way they included their hairy babies in the shots, especially since they met while taking them to the beach.

After seeing these pictures, I love the idea of including my baby poodle Curly in our shots. smile027

From Miss.Gator: I absolutely love their shots in the water. This is definitely a very unique scenario.

Since I was a hardcore swimmer in college, I would love to do some shots in the water, but it might be too cold in CA by the time I get there.

From Future Mrs. Martin: I love shots where couples are laying on the ground, and the leaves look so perfect.

I would love to have some nature in our pictures, but since our wedding will have a very rustic feel, I started to look for more city inspiration.

From Jesstagirl: How fun and colorful are these pictures? I love how they used the painted walls!

I love the graffiti and urban feel in these pictures. I bet there are ton of colorful walls and graffiti around LA.

From Miss Disney: I love the color in these ones, too! I can’t get enough of these bright colored walls. smile027

From nelzbels: How hot is this photo?

Wasn’t that some lovely hive inspiration?

And of course, now that we are having an engagement session, I have the perfect excuse (OK, another excuse) to make a dress and search for cool accessories to wear. smile027

Since I love to tease you all, I’m going to show you what my baby Curly did while I has working hard on a dress, and here you can actually see the fabric I’m using for it.

sneekpeeck

{ Yes! he slept the whole time! My fabric reminds me of Miss Dachshund’s colors! }

We know we want our e-pics to have an urban feel, but we need to start the search for cool places we can  use as backdrops. Since I’ll be new to the area, I’ll have no idea where to look for locations, and even though Mr. Poodle lives in CA, he doesn’t often visit LA.  We thought about taking pics at places we’ve already been in LA, but I think we might be missing some cool shots or locations because we don’t know where to look for them.

So hive, if you took your e-pics out of town or in an unfamiliar place, how did you decide what locations to use?

I decided on my locations by asking the Hive!
If you want an urban backdrop in LA, try the financial district in downtown LA. I’ve seen some really cool pics taken there.

(frantically raising hand) Ooh, ooh, I live in LA, pick me, pick me!

Some pretty amazing shots can be had around the following:
1. The LACMA (around Wilshire Blvd. & La Brea Ave.) has this ah-MAZing exhibit of street lamps at the entrance (from all the street lamps historically found in LA) - my friend had his e-pics taken there & it was great

2. The Disney Music Hall in Downtown LA has some great forms in it (all finished in brushed metal) & it has a great terrace balcony (with trees at different stages of the seasons) that overlooks much of downtown (with the historic central library in the background)

3. City Hall in Downtown LA also has a cool, retro, urban vibe

4. Melrose Ave., the portion in WeHo (West Hollywood) & Beverly Hills, has great street shops with cool window fronts or some of those painted gates

5. If you’re going for the eclectic mix of funky culture, beach vibe, & urban cool, Venice Beach - particularly the intersection at Windward Ave. & Pacific Ave. has some awesome architecture (those arches) in some really hip, bright colors

6. If you’re out at Venice Beach, on the beach, there is a Graffiti Wall where anyone can add their art - it’s very colorful & maybe you can personalize a message too!

(I don’t know how to post pics here…shucks) Umm…that’s all I can think of off the top of my head…hope that helps.

Maison Martin Margiella has a store in Beverly Hills. The entire exterior of the building is covered in pailettes (large silver sequins). I drive by it sometimes in the evening with all the sunset colors reflecting off of it. It’s stunning. http://www.archdaily.com/12639/mameg-maison-martin-margiela-johnston-marklee-associates/ It’s near the intersections of Santa Monica and Wilshire Blvds.

Some of the photographers have their spots that they use for photo shoots. I just called arround told them what I like and every single one of them gave me an idea or two. it worked for me.

Those are some great inspiration photos. We didn’t do engagement photos, but we took a few wedding pics downtown and they looked so cool. The urban setting looked really cool in black and white.

Nice inspiration! I really love the water shots. It reminds me of that one season of America’s Next Top Model where Caridee won.

Aw thanks for posting our picture. We picked our searching photos on google maps street view. Strange huh? Then we drove around a couple blocks when we got there. Our photographer saw the big red doors of a firehouse. Can’t wait to see your dress!
