Miss Lamb's Picture
Miss Lamb, Norfolk Age and Occupation: 25, Homeland Security Consultant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Graduate Student Engagement Date: January 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Harrison Opera House About Me: I’m a Homeland Security Consultant with a tendency towards pulling office pranks, taking lunch breaks, and drinking Wawa shakes. I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!
About Miss Lamb

Guestbook Trial

October 20th, 2009 @ 3:51 pm by Miss Lamb

After seeing this gorgeous AND practical AND sentimental AND fun guestbook idea:

image

at Vintage Glam and then a million other places, my Lambalicious Planner convinced me that we could make this work at out more-early-20th-century vibed reception.

I wasn’t completely convinced, though. I had to do a trial run.

I thought perhaps the tree would look dead with black and silver leaves. I thought perhaps it wouldn’t fit into the decor of our house after the wedding. Then the light bulb went off! What if I paired it with a lovely black and white photograph from the big day? As soon as I had this thought, I decided I wanted to make this work.

In about 5 minutes, I whipped up this mini prototype. With Crayola markers and black stamp pad, I sloppily wrote our names and then pressed on a few leaves. My Lamb Lover looked on, his chief concern being the ease with which the ink would wash from my thumb.

Guest+B01

Good news: The ink washed away with soap and water. I think that a box of baby wipes by the table will be the ticket on the big day, though.

One last staged look at my handiwork:

Guest+B02

For the actual print that we’ll be using, I think I’ll be using my bamboo brushes and India ink on watercolor paper. I just have to dig it up from somewhere at the house in Durham. Right… someday I will live in one place for longer than 18 months so that I avoid hassles like this.

Are you opting for a non-traditional guest book?

I’m not really sure what we’ll be doing for our guest book. I know the FI wants to have something more traditional, but I want something that’s practical & I’ll actually look through. We’re kind of stuck :/

That’s lovely! We *were* opting for a less traditional guestbook (vintage postcards) but then we saw the amazing guestbook included in our photography package, and we were smitten. I absolutely love the thumbprint tree idea you’ve posted, though, and I think it’ll look so cool hanging up on your wall after the wedding!

I DID THIS! Our theme was “family tree” and so it just made complete sense to us to incorporate it when I found it online! I just wrote about it too: http://nolanandcamille.blogspot.com/2009/10/favorites-guest-book.html

It is one of my favorite things from the wedding! I real keepsake. We used baby wipes too - places along side the stamp area. I did however see some green thumbs here and there - but no one cares if it doesn’t come off all the way at first because they’re so excited to make their mark!

Love! Baby wipes will work well. At first (while reading) I was thinking those alcohol pads wrapped thingy-ma-bobs (highly technical, y’alls), but baby wipes will be much better. And less trash. Just make sure to get the unscented kind!

Thats awesome! MY family and I used to make pictures of things with our thumbprints - people, trees, trains, etc. But this is awesome! And babywipes will work totally fine for getting the ink off!

I think we want to put pictures from our engagement party in a book and have people sign it. It’s not very original but it’s better than just a book to sign.

This is totally cute! Love this idea! Plus, it’s a little arts and crafts for your guests, and you could get cute pictures of people holding up their dirty thumbs!

Wow, that’s really cool. We did the thing where we had people sign a mat for a photo frame, then put a wedding photo inside it.

I did this for our wedding… You can see on my blog: http://theroddybride.blogspot.com/2009/10/guest-book-our-wedding-tree.html

Also, what worked for us was Wet Wipes…We found a bulk package at our local Sam’s Club or BJ’s Warehouse for just a few dollars. They came in single packs.

Good luck with making it work for your wedding. I have to tell you that is looks awesome one our wall of our new home. :)

Aww that’s so cute!
Are they going to just stamp their finger or they’ll sign their name too?

This is by far my favorite guest book idea… even if you just used magic markers! haha

There always has to be a rough draft :) I cringe at my first round of wedding invites & I can’t believe I shared them with anyone…. they were so primitive!
