It’s a Wonder I Don’t Fall Over

October 21st, 2009 @ 12:28 pm by Ms Potato Chips

I always thought it’d be so lovely to waltz into a department store and try on a bunch of shoes. What a dream! I rock me some size 2 Converse kicks and am always on the search for shoes in sizes 3 or 4. On a good day I weasel my way into a grown-up size 5. In the winter I stick some Dr. Scholl’s Gellins in a pair of boots and call it a day, but it’s much harder to fake it with a pump or a strappy sandal.

Proms and job interviews were always the bane of my shoexistence. Sure, I can save money by shopping in the children’s department, but I can’t go down the aisle in a pair of Jo-Bro wheelies (or can I??…No, no, P.Chips. No wheelies at the wedding).

So I’ve begun to scout for wedding shoes early. It will be the ultimate quest, my own personal Everest, my odyssey, my road to Damascus (road to Shoemascus?). Can I do it? Will my little piggies cry wee wee wee all the way home?? Only time and Internet research will tell.

And who knew so many people would have opinions on the matter? MommaChips: “You need AT LEAST 3″ heels for your dress.” Potato Head (who does physical therapy): “Are you crazy?? Buy flats!! With arch support!” Ay yi yi.

I came across these on DSW, but they were sold out in size 5 (and out of my budget)! But aren’t they something?

Badgley Mischka Chaz

Badgley Mischka Chaz

Do you have wee feet (or the opposite problem)? Where can a girl get some shoes around here??

I feel your pain!! I’m a size 4 and my biggest worry was buying shoes for the wedding! I ended up ordering 5 pairs of shoes in varying heel heights in size 4 or 5 from endless.com and tried them all out. Good luck with the shoe shopping!

I’ve been having awesome luck getting great “grown up shoes” at Nordstrom and Nordstrom rack lately. (hello size 4.5 Enzo Angiolini ankle boots for $30!) You might want to check them out. I think their BP line carries size 4 in styles similar to the one you posted above.

Good luck! Can’t wait to see what you end up getting!

I too have small feet and have started the shoe search! Size 5 works on a good, TALL day for me! :) I agree with StrawberryBaby on Nordstrom as I have just found out that they carry very small sizes. AND, their “Big Kids” shoes actually have some heel height to ‘em…you have to search, though! Good luck in your search…I’m interested to see what you end up getting!

You can totally DIY these type of shoes. I saw a tutorial online where you make cute/sexy ruffles to add between the ankle and toe strap. Totally Sex and the City style Carrie shoes!

Is Zappos your friend? (Or some other shoe website?) I just did a search and there are a bunch of cute heels in size 4 and 2.5 inches in height. Of course, the cheapest is $140 ….

Saks & Neimans also carry smaller sizes. And, if there’s an Off Fith near you, many of the small sizes end up there!

Ugh, I thought I had it bad with a size 5! I used to work at DSW, and still could never find shoes. I, too, fake it with bigger shoes but have a hard time doing that with evening shoes. It’s too easy to trip and takes away from the look of the shoe.

Nordstrom Rack often has good options, although I have Manolo/Christian Louboutin lust, so I usually scour Ebay.

I loved these shoes too! So whimsical! I got my Nina’s on WeddingBee but I know the http://www.NinaShoes.com carries smaller sizes.

I wear a 4-4 1/2 and I have your solution. I went through over 20 pairs of zappos shoes, no dice. I was so frustrated and ready to get married in white birkenstocks when I saw a blurb with a great idea in a bridal magazine. I made a special trip to NYC to visit a tiny store and left with my shoes!

I bought my wedding shoes from Worldtone Dance, the company that makes the shoes for Dancing with the Stars. Yup, I wore ballroom dance shoes to my wedding. They come in super small sizes, cream satin, and are incredibly comfortable. Best of all they FIT MY TINY FEET!

I feel your pain. I wear a 5.5 but my mom wears a 4/4.5 and my BFF’s girlfriend is a 4.5/5. Mom used to always get her pumps at Naturalizer or order them from Spiegel. I get e-mails regularly from Cinderella of Boston which focuses on small shoes. Also the BFF’s girlfriend usually orders from Nordstrom’s online. If they don’t fit, you can return them to the store.

I’m not looking forward to the hunt for shoes.

I have the opposite problem…size 11… My inner-fashionista weeps bitterly. Anyhow, I second the recommendations for endless.com and zappos.com. All else fails, Overstock.com isn’t too bad in general (hit or miss, but they do carry sizes 4-14). It would probably take a while to find *THE* shoe there, but it might be worth a look every so often in your big search.

Hey Ms. PC!
I suggest you try http://www.shoedazzle.com. This company works like “Shoe-A-Month” club. Its $39 a month but if you don’t want to buy shoes that month you don’t have to and you will still presented with shoe options for that month (just in case u changed your mind).

This “shoe society” conducts a fashion survey to figure out what your style is, then it ask for your shoe size and your top 5 favorite colors. Then a team of stylist will generate a selection of 5 pairs of shoes (based on your answers to the survey). Also, Kim Kardashian is the Founder and the chief stylist, so if your a fan of her looks then you will like this company.

Its worth a shot…just a suggestion

I shop for shoes (among other things for a living) and I have to say that dance shoes are the way to go- and they worked for my small-footed best friend bride last year! Beautiful and comfortable to boot! lol. Although a close runner up would be…VINTAGE SHOES! As a big-footed bride these are so not an option for me, but there are some amazing ones out there. Try ebay or etsy. Good Luck!

Nordstom has a lot of great options - search using the size and width finder - they have some great heels in very small sizes available.

Try these…they’re wedding shoes made like dance shoes by a ballroom instructor/choreographer, Angela Nuran. I usually wear a size 5 and I’m in a size 5.5 with them. They’re also fully adjustable at the bottom, which helps those of us with smaller feet! bit.ly/I1jhZ

I’ve also heard good things about Cinderella of Boston, although I haven’t tried them.

@StrawberryBaby: I’ll have to try those. I’ve ordered two size 5s and both are way too big!
@Mrs. Gloss: I’m blue, baby! Both a nod to my penchant for salt and vinegar chips, and a way to differentiate me and that delicious French Fry! :)
@tallulah: Great idea! I never would have thought of that.
@MexicanGirl: I also got me and Miss FF confused! I love my costume change.

I wear a size 8 1/2 (which must be common b/c they are ALWAYS sold out), but for some reason I’m 8 or 7 1/2 in dress shoes, so even though I know my size in every other type of shoes I can’t buy dress shoes online because I never know how they’ll fit. My bridesmaid is a size ten, so she is having a heck of a time finding even something so simple as black dress shoes… *sigh*

Miss P-Chip you’re so cute I just wanna squeeze you! Love the bag change too.

I have the opposite problem of being super tall with humungo feet (size 12 to be exact) and been humiliated time and time again by department stores saying the dont think they make shoes that big.

My savior has been http://www.endless.com they carry a wide array of sizes from tiny to huge, narrow to super wide. For the first time in my life I am able to own a pair of Nine West shoes, and YES they actually fit. Huge deal for me considering that prior to my discovery of the endless website every pair of shoes I had ever owned were from payless! Try your luck with endless- I hope you find something amazing!

This post made me laugh. My 7 year old duaghter wears a size 4 1/2 to 5. I have the HARDEST time finding her appropriate shoes. I’m a 9 or 10, depending on the shoe, but goodness this girl has a long way to go…

Good luck on your hunt - I have often found really neat (small sized) vintage shoes in thrift stores - we’ve got a pair of orange heels from Paris in the dress up box right now.

My sister (who is 29) has itty bitty feet (4.5) and she buys her shoes at Nordstrom. She also rocks kids shoes every now and then! I wear 5.5 so finding heels that fit properly has been tough. My favourites are a pair of Miu Miu heels (total splurge) but I’m guessing they’d still be too big for you, Miss PC. I also came randomly came across this website: http://www.pretty-small-shoes.com/acatalog/index.html

I always say that too! My feet are not tiny by regular standards, but I’m 6′3″ and wear a size 10. Compared to my leg length and overall height, my feetsies look teeny.

Finally - someone else shares my pain! I wear 4s or 4 1/2s….5s just simply don’t fit. I LOVE shoes, but I try to avoid shoe-shopping because I generally end up sad and depressed. :(

I have had some luck with http://www.cinderellaofboston.com, though. While I don’t like all of their styles, they do have some pretty ones! I’m considering their “Romance” shoe for my wedding. I’ve been scouring the sale racks at Nordstrom though, too. I just really want to wear beautiful shoes for my wedding - any shoe designers here? Please help us girls with tiny feet!

though…those ones above are dreamy…..

it bothers me that your feet are so small and you could fit 3 of your feet in one of my shoes. I’m a 12.5 on a good day. and i live life in mens shoes, ’specially skater shoes bc they are roomy! but as my mama always said “they dont build big foundations under sh*thouses!”

hope you have luck finding your baby shoes!

I can sympathize completely @Ms Potato Chips! I have small feet too. That’s why I love summer because you can usually find flip flops in small sizes. You’re right dress shoes are almost impossible to find in 5’s! If you do.. they are usually the floor sample and stretched out! I’m running into that problem right now. I have no idea where to look.. I really want to get a pair of designer shoes (* my splurge*)

gorgeous, but still pricey - who buys $118 shoes for their children?!?

I have the complete opposite problem (holla Ms. French Fries). I’m between 10-11 depending on the shoe and since my fiance is only a couple inches taller than I am I have to watch the heel height. The worst part is I can never find cute shoes. The ones that are always there are the ugly old woman church shoes or casual sneaker style shoes. Too bad I love super cute tall heels!

I’m a size 11, but I’ve been squeezing my feet into 10’s for years!

I get a lot of my shoes online because most stores don’t have too many 10’s or 11’s available & if they do- they get snatched up really fast!!

Oh shoe issues - I envy those girls who can just waltz into any store and skip out in adorable shoes… I’ve got WIDE feet - like sometimes the shoe box fits better than that shoes… But Nordstrom is great. Not sure what I’m going to do about the wedding shoes…
