Making It (Almost) Legal

October 21st, 2009 @ 1:45 pm by Mrs. Cloud

We had a few moments of free time the other day, which is rare for us working complete opposite work schedules most days, so we decided to take a little trip down to the courthouse and take care of one little to-do we had almost forgotten about… our marriage license!

ml[3]

I’m not kidding; we really almost forgot all about this very important little step! Turns out in Virginia it’s pretty easy to do. All it takes is your driver’s license and thirty bucks (more if you need extra copies). We were in and out in thirty minutes. It would have taken less time, but there were a few couples before us. Now we just have our priest sign it after the ceremony, and we will officially be hitched! After all this complicated planning, and who knew it was so easy to do the legal stuff?

Have you gotten your marriage license yet? Was it an easy process?

Wow that’s so cheap! I feel like Arizona’s marriage license is expensive when I read posts like this! Its $72 here!

Tennessee’s is $99.50, but you get $60 off if you complete a marriage prep program.

Cute pic and glad it was so easy for you. It was easy here too, but we had to wait three days before we could pick it up.

@Miss Ladybug - wow, it’s really gone up. When I got married the first time 11 years ago it was only like $25 in AZ. There’s no way we could have afforded to elope with a $72 marriage license (we were so broke and way too young).

You inspired me to check - same day, $15 in Nebraska! One thing I don’t have to worry about again until the week of the wedding (when we’re both in town)

Exciting! I haven’t even thought about marriage license stuff yet, although I should because my fiance is a legal alien. I bet we have to jump through some red tape.

Congrats, that is a very exciting thing!

We got ours two weeks ago, and it was easy-peasy! We found the right building of the court house, went through the metal detector, found out the price and that they were open (on Columbus Day) and then went to the ATM (the Flagstaff, AZ courts website said it was $50 instead of $72). Then we went back through the metal detector again, and 10 minutes later had our certificate. I was amazed at the “State marriage booklet” that AZ hands out, over half of it is information on how to get divorced!!

Yippee!! You too look so cute!

I’m immigrating to the US & we have 90 days to make it happen… then comes a long process of a SSN, adjustment of status, interviews, become a resident, apply for citizenship, etc, etc, etc. lol
