Runway: Monique Lhuillier

October 21st, 2009 @ 4:20 pm by Mrs. Penguin

We were incredibly excited to attend the Monique Lhuillier show! It was held at the Eyebeam Atelier, and it had a double runway setup, which was nice because it maximized visibility for the attendants. Mrs. Bee and I scored great seats right up front with Anne-Marie from Perfect Bound and Kelly from Santa Barbara Chic. Anne-Marie was in the first seat, so she got the best pics, and was kind enough to share some of her shots with us!

I really wanted to soak the show in so I didn’t take very many pictures myself. Monique says that her Fall 2010 line is all about a Fairytale Winter Wedding.

I love Monique’s gowns because even the larger, more ball gown shapes look light as air.

The phrase that came to mind when I was watching the show was, “And then some.” Monique’s designs are all so so wearable; she’s able to take a familiar silhouette and then punch it up 10 levels. I feel like her gowns are so recognizable, no matter the season or line, old or new, don’t you?

The gowns all have magical, wintery names like Icicle, Cinnamon, Wonderland, Magical, and Miracle. 23 gowns in all, it’s impossible to pick a favorite, so I’m not going to. What’s yours?

Ugh, all of those dresses are so gorgeous. I need to see my dress in person again (December seems so far away!!) so that I can stop lusting after these dresses. lol

I love love LOVE that lace overcoat that’s in the center of the last photograph. If I were getting married in November or December, I’d definitely opt for a bridal coat or whatever those things are called.

some lovely dresses! I love the first one especially.

Am I the only one puzzeled by the strange location of the head gear? And the miserable facial expressions?

Those dresses are gorgeous - I’m nto sure I can pick a favorite, really. And you describe her style perfectly … it’s just sort of timeless in a way.

@Victoria: Haha… I think the serious faces are really exaggerated by the white mascara. I couldn’t put my finger on what it was at first… but then I think to me, the white mascara makes them look more serious. There were some runway shows with smiling girls, and honestly, it was kind of distracting. I like the serious face :)

Totally agree, Victoria–I’m confused by the hairpieces, too…
I adore the second to last picture. Mmmm, so floof-y…

As usual, such beautiful dresses. However, the models leave a lot to be desired. They almost ruin the whole look of the gowns.

I think she still does lace dresses best. wished they wouldn’t use such stick figure models though :(

the main dress in the last pic reminds me of Miss Lightning.

Ooh… HelloKitty2 = newest bee???

It looks like they tried to make all of the models ugly so the dresses would look even more beautiful.. I’m definitely excited about the first one! <3

I think all of those girls look REALLY unattractive. Goodness knows why they wouldn’t make them up to be beautiful…I mean don’t you want to see a beautiful, elegant girl in a wedding dress?

Models are meant to be vessels for the dresses, in my opinion. I don’t really see the need a gorgeous glowing beaming model distracting my eyes from why we were there in the first place — to view the dresses. In person I thought the models looked fabulous—very polished, similar body types, all did the dresses the justice they deserved. It was neat to see it all in person, and how the most professional models are able to carry themselves in a way that draws your eyes to the dresses.

The lacy, super-tight mermaid one is amazing! But I like the fluffy ones, too. I agree, ML is one of the best in the game.
