After a whirlwind of family portraits, I disappeared into a hotel room with my bridesmaids to wait patiently for the remaining guests to be seated.
After an anxious 15 minutes, my father collected me at the door and we walked towards the restaurant. As the first few beats of Ben E. King’s Stand By Me began, I followed the glow of lanterns held by my lovely ladies to meet the gaze of friends, family, and towards the far end, Mr Lightning.

(our last minute arrangement for the bridal party)
As we turned to face the room, Mr Lightning took my hand and we held onto each other for dear life the remainder of the ceremony. Even as our hands became damp with perspiration, we held on as tightly as possible, exchanging regular squeezes to check if the other was still there. Despite the increased heartbeat, breathing and shaking knees, we stood strong side by side, more anxious by the spotlight than the idea of our marriage. We had finally made it down the aisle.
In the next post the Lightnings share their vows and make it official!
