About Mrs. Peep Toe

A Spoiled Rotten Nightmare.

October 22nd, 2009 @ 2:10 pm by Mrs. Peep Toe

Hi, I am Mrs. Peep Toe, and I am spoiled rotten.

A few months before our wedding, I *might* have mentioned under my breath (which might have also been ridden with alcohol) that my engagement ring would look even more perfect flanked by not just one band, but two. Yep, I was that girl that asked for it all up front.

Oops, did I do that??

So the day before our wedding, while I was getting the VERY BEST massage of my life, Mr. Peep was not just getting my ring cleaned, but also getting another friend for my finger (thank you tax return).

I have no pictures of us exchanging our presents, but I did take a picture of all three rings while I was basking in post-bridal bliss the morning after the wedding.

Wedding055

And yes, that is Mr. Peep in the background blissfully sleeping, and yes, I have a totally crazy pinky finger, and yes, the time stamp is totally wrong and annoying (more on that later).

Anyway, the best part is that it is slightly different than my wedding band so I can always tell the two apart. And now I can just wear my bands or just my wedding ring with my engagement ring, or all three together, etc., etc., etc. The point is that I am a spoiled rotten girl with options.

But as the title states—there was a small nightmare. A few weeks ago, I dropped Mama Peep off at the airport, ran a few errands, and on my way home, I looked down at my hand and saw this:

Photo201

Diamond gone. Enter nightmare.

I pulled over, called Mr. Peep and tried not to freak out.

But this nightmare has a VERY happy ending. Insurance would pay for a new stone, and since we have a rider just for my ring—it would be free. AND I found out today that they will pay for a brand new setting for the whole ring—apparently I had faulty prongs.

And the even better news: I FOUND the diamond!! Oh yes!! Amazingly, it was on our bedroom floor under our chair. So, in a couple of weeks, I will be spoiled rotten again with all my bling bling.

Until then, run, don’t walk, to your insurance agent to add your ring to your homeowner’s insurance. You will thank me later.

Has anyone else had a ring nightmare?

We keep putting off putting my ring on the homeowner’s insurance policy because I haven’t gotten it appraised yet. You just inspired me. Getting that taken care of before the week is out.

Wow, I can’t believe you found it! I have lost many stones out of rings, but have never recovered a single one (even sometimes when I watched it pop out!).

I LOVE your second band!

We insured my ring on-the-double! It’s not a huge rock or anything, but I asked him, “Do you want to have to buy it for me again?” The answer was a resounding “no” so we insured ;)

I recommend Jewelers Mutual. We pay $40 per year to cover my e-ring, wedding band, and Mr. CB’s wedding band. That’s for platinum, quite a few karats, and some gold. If you don’t already have a homeowner’s plan, of course…

OMW I’m so glad you found it! I NEED to put my ring on my HOI! We just recently bought our house, but thank you for reminding me!

My nightmare story:

So we had just gotten back from announcing our engagement in Indiana where my family lives… We got back and hung out for a couple hours before my fiance headed home. As I was saying goodbye I noticed my ring was missing! Not just the diamond the ring itself was gone. We tore the apartment apart!! Moved furnature, dug through trash, ripped the car apart! After we were sure it was gone I looked through the gift bags we had brought back from Indiana and there it was! The ring was too big and had slipped off my finger! COMPLETE NIGHTMARE!

I completely agree with the insurance route! My husband insured mine the day he proposed. That may have something to do with the 3 watches I lost while we were dating.. oopsies!

I chipped my stone… I’ll never forget that awful feeling in the pit of my stomach when I first realized.

Oh wow…so does this mean that the insurance is getting you a new ring, and you can have that found diamond set into something new?? Because that would be cool.

@MsLight - I totally feel your pain. I also lost my entire engagement ring, about two months after I got it. I remember seeing it on my finger when I took the bus home from the grocery store, and when I was making dinner, I looked down and it was gone. I tore apart my entire apartment, including emptying out the trash item-by-item. Plus, I moved a couple of months later, and literally looked *everywhere*. I never found it. Fortunately, it was insured, and my new ring is gorgeous. But there’s something sad about knowing it’s not *the ring*.

No ring nightmare, but my ring was added to my homeowners policy the week after we were engaged. FI was so mad I called the church before the insurance agent!

Insurance can be a lifesaver like that! I haven’t had any problems with my ring yet, but if I ever did I’m super glad my FI got insurance on it before he even proposed.

After my husband proposed to me he was super anxious to get it insured. I made him wait 2 weeks because I didn’t want to have to take it off to get it appraised! I’m glad your ring story has a happy ending!

@kmattso2: If only, I’m trying to keep my ring as original as possible so the diamond will be going back into the ring.
@tbk041710: Glad I am not the only one!! Congrats!!
@redherring: Oh, jezzz. So sad.

I was totally freaked out wearing my engagement ring until we got it insured. Now that it is insured I wear the ring all the time. I am more worried about losing or misplacing it than I am about damaging it.

First off, what a beautiful addition to your ring set!!! Second, how crazy to lose that diamond. I would have completely freaked out. Thank goodness you had insurance, and you found the stone! Mr. Taffy had my e ring insured before he picked it up from the store. Now I am glad he did!

I honestly have nightmares about this happening, and I actually have a pretty small ring, but with huge sentimental value. This happened to my grandmothers engagement ring that I wore when I was younger. Scary!

I had one with my first wedding ring, although like you I ended up finding the diamond, so the world was set right again. However, with this ring, the first thing I did when i got it was insure it. So worth the peace of mind. Now I just need to get around to sending the insurnace company the final apraisal on the whole set. Whoops.

Oh my god yes!!! I was at work when a stranger said “excuse me, does this belong to you?” while holding my diamond in their hand!! My heart stopped for a moment when I looked down at the naked prongs on my ring. My prongs turned out to be faulty as well. Thank the lord for ring insurance! And for the honest stranger!

BTW my jeweler recommends having the prongs checked every 3-4 months to prevent it from happening again. So glad you found your diamond :]

@mandy.: WOWZA, what an amazingly honest and awesome stranger. I would have kissed her. But I am sure I would have been in complete shock as well. So glad you found the diamond.

And yes, my prongs had been checked before (why does that sound dirty?), so I knew there was an issue.
