About Mrs. Joey

Once my parents “gave” me away, I joined Mr. Joey, MOH Joey and BM Joey on the altar. Instead of having a full mass, we opted to do a Catholic blessing instead. Neither of us are regular mass goers and Mr. Joey is less Catholic than I am. We thought a blessing would be a nice compromise, plus, we needed to keep the ceremony short because of traffic concerns.

Father H. started with a brief welcome and opening prayer.

Apparently MOH Joey was already a little bored. :)

Mr. Joey and I decided that we would each ask a family member to read during the ceremony. Mr. Joey selected his cousin Cate and I selected my cousin Jules. Both did a wonderful job!

My sister and I sharing some kind of inside joke. I wish I could remember what we were smiling at.

We decided to exchange traditional vows. We dabbled with the idea of writing our own vows, but then decided the simple traditional ones were more our style.

And with these rings, we were wed.

Did you write your own vows or go with the traditional ones?

ahh, I’m jealous that you got to sit for some of your ceremony! We were standing for 45 minutes!

The pics of your cousions reading makes we wished we would have done the same!

@LatteLove: I would have DIED if we had to stand the whole time. My feet were already killing me.

Love the simple ceremony and every time I see youre dress, I love it more and more. Traditional vows for us, writing your own are hard.

That first picture is funny! :) We’re going with traditional vows…we’re doing a Catholic ceremony, so there isn’t a lot of room for “creativity” in that area.

We are writing our own vows at the encouragement of our celebrant… we’re over 8 months out and of course I haven’t started mine. But that overachiever FI of mine already has his written! GAH!

I can’t get over those pops of yellow in your pics. Love it!

We did so much personalizing everywhere else, we decided to go straight from the book for the vows. A, one less thing to worry about, B, we know it’s legit!

We wrote our own vows, but we recited them and formatted them similar to traditional vows. Sometimes when people write their own vows, it becomes a long, romantic gushy speech about how much you love the other person, and that, IMO is not what writing vows is about. We wrote our vows because we saw value in drafting the nature of our commitment in our own words, and it was very rewarding that as part of that, we were committing to HOW we would stay married, not just promising that we would.
To each their own, that’s just how it worked for us.

That picture of you and your sis is so cute!
We went with pretty traditional vows, too. It was one of the only traditional things we did!

We will be writing our own semi-traditional vows! I want a lot of the traditional elements in our vows, but also some person touches to it!

You & your sister are cookie cutter kids! You look so much a like… It’s wonderful! My sister looks like she’s the mailman’s lol
