Love, Unwrapped: The Taffy Rehearsal!

October 22nd, 2009 @ 9:26 am by Mrs. Taffy

In my last post, I described the meltdown that I had on the day before our wedding. That evening, I had just enough time to shower, throw my hair into a sloppy ponytail, and throw on one of my favorite vintage dresses before the rehearsal began. I was very excited and overwhelmed when we arrived and saw our families, bridal party and friends at our venue. I was also very dizzy! Yes, I had made a classic mistake—I didn’t eat anything all day due to stress, and didn’t realize it until I was about to pass out. Luckily, my maid of honor had a Nutrigrain bar in her purse. I felt the stress edge away as our rehearsal began and my stomach stopped growling. :)

I will pass on showing you our rehearsal photos, and skip to the rehearsal dinner!

Mr. Taffy and I were so excited to arrive at our rehearsal dinner! Do you recognize this dress? I wore it to Mrs. Stiletto’s wedding!

We were so grateful that my MIL and FIL planned and hosted the dinner, which was held at the Arbor Brewing Company in downtown Ann Arbor. Although I had scarfed down that Nutrigrain bar earlier, I was still very hungry and couldn’t wait to eat some pierogies! Yum.

Our appetizers and dinner were made from local, organic ingredients. Eating a solid meal helped to relieve my stress even more, and by the time dinner was over I was ready to party! It isn’t often that these wonderful people are together in one room!

A mix of family and friends enjoying their food.

After dinner, we had a great time mingling and celebrating! I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

The man in the picture below will be referred to as Minister Twizzler during our recaps. This is his chosen handle, in the spirit of my candy-themed moniker. Not only did he introduce Mr. Taffy and me; he married us!!! We were thrilled when he agreed to perform our ceremony. M. Twizzler and I have been friends for over ten years, and were also roommates, starting right after my relationship with Mr. Taffy began and ending when Mr. T and I became engaged and moved in together! Minister Twizzler had an insider’s view of our courtship, which he used as inspiration to write an amazing ceremony for us. I cannot wait to share it with you! We were so happy that he could play such an important role on our wedding day.

I loved Mr. Taffy’s bow tie!

The night wore on, and the drinks flowed…

My MIL passed out dessert- she made these cute and delicious brownies! (I totally ate some for breakfast the next morning!)

We passed out gifts to our families and bridal party.

And I explained the lost earring saga to my bridesmaids! We hatched a plan to bring pearl studs that we already owned to wear during the ceremony and reception. I felt so bad about losing part of their gifts! I still had beautiful necklaces and clutches to give to them, at least.

My lovely Taffettes are below! They surprised me with a group gift at the rehearsal—the KitchenAid mixer from our registry! It was so sweet for them to give us such a wonderful present!

A sassy shot for good measure!

We had such a wonderful time celebrating with everyone. :)

By this point in the evening, it was pouring rain. They say that April showers bring May flowers… well, not this year! The past spring, summer and fall have been the coldest and rainiest that I can remember. I was so excited to marry Mr. Taffy that I didn’t care if the rain continued.

I left the party with Mr. T. and Lexie, one of our two Taffettes of honor. We went to a grocery store and stocked up on orange juice, granola bars and coffee cake for the next morning (one of the errands that just did not get done before the rehearsal!). We then went home and practiced our first dance, something that we hadn’t done in weeks! I even put my hoopskirt and shoes on so he could get used to my wedding height and width. ;) At this point, we pretty excited and delirious, and hopped into bed.

Stay tuned for the rest of the Taffy recaps!

What a lovely dinner. I might be a bride who also needs someone to stash a snack for them. I get nauseous and un-nice when I’m hungry. My friend calls it hangry.

Yea A2! I love the Arbor brewing company. My senior year in college we used to rock their beer tastings they would have once a month with great beer and heavy appetizers. Yum.

Your rehearsal party looks like such a good time!

In 1981 my mother married my step-father in a dress nearly identical to your rehearsal dress! I’ve always loved it and now I’m thinking I might ask if I can wear it to my rehearsal. :)
