One Month Left

October 22nd, 2009 @ 4:43 pm by Mrs. Moonbeam

… And about a year’s worth of stuff to do. And all the while, my laptop is busted, I’ve been sick for almost a week, and I even got Mr. MB sick for good measure. Seriously! But one thing is going well: my paper flower wall. I worked on it when I was back in Texas.

I ventured to Home Depot, bought a $13 piece of plywood, one of those $3 sample cans of paint and a $1 foam brush.

I took this all to my Mom’s new house, which was thankfully still unfurnished and unpainted. So I could paint inside (where it wasn’t rainy, humid or hot) and not worry about spills. (Note, the sample can of paint was not enough to actually coat the piece of plywood, but since I was covering it with a bajillion flowers, I just thinned it with water and finished the job.)

We fiddled around with making a stand for it similar to a large picture frame, but plywood is heavy and we decided it could just lean against a wall.

I took it into the garage and drilled a bunch of random holes that I thought were ’flower-spaced’ apart.

I brought the 100 or so flowers that my Grandmother and I had assembled that were cut and folded by me back in California.

Then I ’artfully’ put the flowers on the board. (Is there a nice way to say that I ’put them in the holes’?)

The good newsis that I don’t need 300 more flowers like I had feared. The bad news is that I need about 100 more.

One thing I haven’t figured out is the back. (I removed all of the flowers after checking my progress for ease of storage) Once you put the wire through and bend it down, it stays really well. I don’t know if the back matters, but do any of you have ideas for a quick, easy way to neaten up the back?

could you cover the back in fabric? get a peice slightly bigger than the playwood, turn each edge inside and staple to the wood. easy peasy :)

I would use foam core or perhaps even felt. Or even a vinyl tablecloth. You could use a staple gun to attach to the plywood.

geta piece of fabric, fold the edges over and staple gun it on all four sides to the backside of the “wall” where the ends pop out…you’ll have a clean and cheap cover up

Cover it with fabric! Just staplegun it, I’d say.

Oooh! I think this will look so cool with all of the flowers! Even if you do need to make more :)

You can totally do it in a month!

You could “upholster” the back–cover it with fabric. ;)

Your flower wall is awesome!!! I agree the the other bees — I was going to suggest covering it with a thick fabric and stapling it into place.

I bet wrapping paper would also work, if you have enough. Fabric might be cheaper, though, if you can get some on sale.

Wrapping paper or bristol board should cover the back quite easily and neatly.

That looks so fabulous! I agree with everyone else, wrapping paper or an old sheet would be a quick and cheap way to finish the back!

That’s going to be awesome!

Bristol board would be WAY too expensive for the back, just a p.s.
