I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!

Invitation Imagination Part 2

October 23rd, 2009 @ 11:34 am by Miss Lamb

I received the sample invitations in the mail! As you read in the previous installment of Invitation Imagination, I liked quite a few invitation sets from eInvite.com.

The invite set that won my heart did not have the option to order a sample for $1.50. I thought that was a nice, measly price for a sample, but was disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to see the exact invite I had chosen. Miss Lamb Planner, my coordinator, even called them to see if it was possible, and they said, “No.” That was probably as nicely as they could have said it.

My heart was set on these invites though and I saw a way around the sample. I scoured the site for an invitation that was the same paperweight and lettering type of my heart’s desire. I received the sample in the mail and knew that my invitation decision was right! Take a peek at the sample below:

I was really impressed with the quality of the paper. I also realized that I couldn’t tell the difference between the thermography and engraving. If they were side by side, I could probably tell the difference. Or if I’d seen hundreds of both kind. But I’m betting our guests haven’t seen them side by side hundreds at a time, so I think we’re okay taking the cheapy shortcut here.

I can’t wait to show you what we actually chose! Did you order a sample before you bought? Did it seal the deal or break the deal?

I had the same problem with samples. The ones I liked didn’t have them. Finally, I went to the printer my family uses. He suggested I select a paper and he’d order &print on it for me. I’m going with thermography . . . only former brides know to turn the paper over to see the indentions on engraving!

So far I’ve ordered a ton of samples! I love getting them in the mail - sort of like an invitation to a great wedding that I don’t have to go to or buy a gift for ;) Some of them were awful - the paper quality was, just, boo. Others I still love. But it’s not time to order yet, so I’ll just find more samples!

I’ve ordered a bunch of samples from WPD… I think its important to see what the quality is like before you sink a lot of money into your invites! We’re only using online invites for response cards & rehearsal dinner invites though. I’m making the actual invites :)

You are such a tease! I want to see what y’all picked. :)

Thermography is just a little more uneven if you look REALLY closely. Nobody would ever know, or be snots about it. Thermography=better option. :) Good good.

I’ve ordered several paper, envelopes, and pocket-fold samples from cards & pockets. I’m torn between the pock-fold I’m going to use but I’m 100% SOLD on the color.

I want to see what you picked! I’m pretty sure you’re right - nobody will notice the difference between thermography and engraving - you’ll be just fine!

I ordered all of my wedding invitaions, rsvp cards, announcements, etc. from her. My wedding is Friday, December 11, 2009. I still do not have them. I was promised that she would send them “the fastest way possible” — when I finally received the tracking number, I was horrified to realize that they were shipped ground. AND I paid her over $2,000. And, her customer service has been marginal at best. I was told that I would be able to send them well within the 6 weeks before the wedding — that was about 5 weeks before the wedding.
