A Church Fit for a Coupla Potatoes

October 26th, 2009 @ 3:45 pm by Ms Potato Chips

This is our ceremony church:

DSCI0106

I’m almost sorry to report that this was another easy decision. Don’t hate me.

Driving around the area looking at potential churches, we quickly spotted this lovely, quaint Baptist church. And by “spotted” I mean we found it locked on a Saturday afternoon, then snuck in through an unlocked basement door and had a good look around. We’re pretty bad-ass, in case you couldn’t tell. We made sure to sign the guest book.

The inside is small and plain and I just adore it. We’re looking forward to talking with the pastor about what our ceremony will look like. Added bonus: it’s located in a charming seaside town—it’s technically a village—where Mama Potato Head grew up! Mr. Potato Head, his brother, and one of the Potato Groomsmen used to work in a now-closed cafe next door to this church, and I have fond memories of grabbing hot chocolates and wandering about the little village with PH.

Are you holding your ceremony and reception at different sites? Which one was easier to find?

We’re holding ours at separate sites. Reception was easy (it was the third place we looked at) but the ceremony site was a battle. We finally settled on a town park and are saving $1K+ over our original choice (a private girls’ school chapel) Works for everyone!

Very cute church! :) Our ceremony was an easier choice, by far — it’s the church where I’m a member!

Your lucky this was a breeze! Our venue search was nonexistant, we found soemthing the day after he proposed and it was theo nly place we looked. The church on the other hand wasn to so easy. Getting married in a catholic church in RI isn’t so easy when you dont live in the state. We had a lot of phone calls, and meetings before getting the go ahead.

@tea: I was the Nervous Nelly, while Mr. Potato Head and Potato Mom were like, “Oh it’s fine! Come on!!”

Very pretty! The reception site was easy and came first. I changed my ceremony location 3 times so it was anything but easy!! Since I live in AZ, I finally opted for an outdoor ceremony at a beautiful golf course. I really wanted a church wedding, but couldn’t make it work.

So pretty!

Our ceremony is being held at a church about a 2 miles from the reception (at my parents’ house). Not too bad. :p

You crack me up! Ceremony was much easier for me. I work at the church were we are getting married. In fact, I work in the department that is over weddings. It helps to know people!!!!! :)

So, so cute and pretty! I love it. It will be nice to compare your June wedding pics to this winter one. Mr. Hammy and I are having our ceremony and the reception in the same place, so that was easy-peasy for us (but not easy-peasy, I assume, for the people who will have to do the one hour turnover during cocktails!).

I love that you broke in *and* signed the guest book. I’m not sure you’d make such a good criminal. =P

I can’t believe you broke into a church! lol you’re so funny :) It’s a really gogeous church!

Our wedding is going to be at the same location…well, the ceremony will be outdoors on a deck on top of the mountain overlooking the ocean & the city. Our reception is inside w/ the same incredible views!

I love how New England it is. If I had gotten married in a church it would’ve been like that - simple and quaint.

It’s adorable! :) We had our ceremony and reception at the same site. It was our Plan B, after our church took our deposit and waited several months to tell us that they had to cancel! But it ended up working out great!
