E-Shoot: The Outfit

October 26th, 2009 @ 3:21 pm by Mrs. Hamster

One of my favorite parts of wedding planning is picking outfits for different events. :) With our engagement shoot coming up, I browsed my local stores looking for that perfect outfit. I was looking for three things in particular:

1. Slightly dressy
The mans and I decided to go the slightly dressier route for our e-shoot. We’re not going the evening gown and tux route, but think more autumn dress than jeans.

2. Autumn-appropriate
Autumn in NYC can be the most gorgeous weather ever, or it can be a chilly (make that freezing) affair. I needed an outfit that would keep me at least slightly warm while we cavorted around NYC for 2 hours. I soon found out that other than some super cute autumn coats (hello, J.Crew!), most of the dresses in stores were still very light and spring/summery. Boooo.

2. Bold colors, no patterns

When doing my e-shoot outfit research, I learned that patterned outfits can sometimes be a little distracting. I sadly ruled out some cute options like this:

but decided to stick with a solid, bold color that would hopefully pop in the photos.

Three simple requirements + a girl who loves to shop. This was going to be easy peasy! Boy, was I in for a surprise. I don’t know if it was the self-imposed pressure of finding the perfect outfit or my nervousness about a whole bunch of picture-taking, but I found only 2 outfits that passed muster. Here they are!

Thoughts?

Did you ever have trouble finding the perfect outfit - how did you get around that?

I’m also doing e-pics in NYC in the next week or so and have been STRESSED about what to wear! We are going the jeans route. So I’ve been trying to find a cute top that goes with my only cute-enough-for-pics jacket and heels. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a random 70 day!

your dresses look beautiful! i love the navy one especially!

I have my own e-shoot in 2 weeks and I’m in the same process of finding the perfect (and warm!) outfit. The red dress is beautiful!!! Too bad we don’t have DVF around here.

We’re doing our e-shoot on Friday, and a few weeks ago, we went to Nordstrom and had their “Personal Stylist” find a dress for me. When we arrived, she had about 10 dresses lined up for me in the fitting room. Some were eliminated right off, and she brought in a few more. It was maybe the 8th dress I tried on, but it really only took about 20 minutes of our time! And the dress is perfect (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3059768/0~2376776~2374327~2374331~6014132?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6014132&P=1) for fall weather. I’m wearing it with fishnets and spikey boots. The stylist even picked out the perfect necklace for the outfit.

Then we went down to the men’s department, and one of their stylist helped FI. We were out of the store in an hour!

I’m trying to figure out what to wear as we speak. I think I’ll do a dressy outfit and a more casual one. Don’t know what to put FI in though. :p

Love the red dress! Both colors will really pop in pictures though. I wore blue and it really stood out!
