About Mrs. Labrador

We’ve picked our wine, are in the process of writing our love letters, and have finally narrowed down the bazillion quotes floating around on marriage to 5 we really like for our love letter box! Now we need your help narrowing the quotes down to 1! We will then have that quote along with our names and wedding date engraved on a brass plate attached to the back of the box.

So which one is it going to be, hive?

To keep your marriage brimming,
With love in the loving cup,
Whenever you’re wrong admit it;
Whenever you’re right shut up.

– Ogden Nash

A good marriage is the union of two good forgivers.

– Ruth Bell Graham

We are a work in progress with a lifetime contract.

– Phyllis Koss

New love is the brightest, and long love is the greatest,
But revived love is the tenderest thing known on earth.

– Thomas Hardy

Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether in marriage or in friendship, is conversation.

– Oscar Wilde

Which quote is your favorite?

I’m loving both the concept and rhyme scheme of the Ogden Nash quote! I’ve thought about embossing our wedding stationary and ribbon decor with love quotes and you’ve inspired me to look a little deeper.

First let me start by saying that I love Ogden Nash, but for this, I really like the P. Koss quote the best. :)

The Ogden Nash quote is hilarious but I think personally, for something like the love letter box, I would go with Ruth Graham’s quote, it’s beautifully written and totally true…

The Ogden Nash quote has been my personal mantra for life ever since I first read it. ^_^ It’s good for us grudge-y folks.

But I agree that for this I like the Phyllis Koss quote.

i think the nash quote has the right amount of humor and the reference to a cup is perfect for the wine box!

I like Phyllis Koss and Thomas Hardy.
The whole point of the box is that if you get to a point where things are tough and you need to remind yourselves why you fell in love in the first place then you open the box, right?
Then, these two are perfect, because they also remind you that marriage isn’t always easy.

They’re all fantastic, but I vote for Phyllis! It’s kind of a pun with the wine and is just so poignant.

I voted for the Ruth Bell Graham one as I think trouble in marriage starts when someone isn’t willing to forgive.

But the first one was funny :)

The Phyllis Koss quote is succinct, sweet, and the most relevant, without placing any expectations on what your married years will be like or require of you. I like it! And like krissycake said, it’s a fun pun to go with the wine. :)

I am a SUCKER for Thomas Hardy. Seriously. Tess of D’Ubervilles is an incredible book. And I really think it works for the idea of the box!
