Pipe Cleaners

October 27th, 2009 @ 2:08 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

So when you were little did you like to play with pipe cleaners? I totally did, even though I had zero crafting ability back then, just like now. I don’t know what it is about them, but the possibilities seem endless, and then when Pengy came back from the Martha Stewart Party with pipe cleaner rings, it totally gave me the idea to have pipe cleaners at the kids’ table!

Well, I went to Michaels and picked up the largest bag of pipe cleaners I could find, and somehow ended up with this:

Pipe Cleaners : wedding crafts 14 squirel

It’s a squirrel!

And then I also made a ring:

Pipe Cleaners : wedding crafts 22 ring3

I found some tutorials online via Martha, and all of them are really easy! I think the kids will love making them.

For the wedding, I hired a girl to sit at the kids’ table, and I’ll include some of these tutorials in their kid’s kits and I can only hope that the kids will have a great time.

Are you going to have the kids at your wedding make any special projects?

Cute! I would love to do that, but I think when all of the kids are under 4 (only having 5 there-2/3 in one family is in the party (one too young), and 1/2 in the other family is in the party)), and I think it would be hard to have them do some of it.

Those are cute — I loved the rings in Pengy’s post, too! I loved pipecleaners as a kid, so I’m sure the ones at your wedding will love them!

so clever. what a simple, non-messy option at a wedding, and i like that you have a ‘babysitter’ there to keep them entertained!

I played with pipe cleaners and wire to make things as a kid too. I’d been thinking about picking up some pipe cleaners to put on the tables for the kids to play with as a less messy alternative to coloring pages. I think I’m going to print off instructions on how to make somethings out of them to include in the activity books I’m going to make for the kiddies. That way they can take them home and make more. Thanks for the link to Martha. I’ll have to go look for that book. Might have some luck doing a google search for pipecleaner crafts too.

@krissycake: I bought a bag of 350, all varied colors and it was like $7. I can’t wait to see what the kids come up with!
@MissPopcorn: Yeah! I was surprised by how much is out there, and it’s really easy. Not sure if I’ll buy the stuff like eyes, etc to glue on, but hopefully they’ll have fun without those.
