Change of A-dress

October 28th, 2009 @ 12:17 pm by Miss French Fries

Not for me, silly. I will gladly be wearing my sweet Cossette to our reception as well as our ceremony, but there will be some changes made to parts of my bridal get-up. I’ll take out my cathedral length veil — it would only pick up dirt and debris around the reception hall–and I’ll have my dress bustled so that I can dance unabashedly to “Sweet Dreams” by the Eurythmics on the dance floor (most likely looking like Elaine from Seinfeld).

Sometimes I wonder how “unabashedly” I will actually be able to dance in a 15 pound gown.

It will probably be hot and heavy and will somewhat impede my movement. No matter, I will persevere! Other brides before me have felt the same way – so much so that they change their dresses in between the ceremony and reception. I knew that some girls did this, but what I didn’t know was that now there’s an entire bridal market for ”reception dresses”! While cruising the Priscilla of Boston website recently (I was looking for bridesmaids dresses, I swear!) I saw that they have an entire section dedicated to reception dresses. While I love my dress way too much to even consider it, if I had the option to wear a 2nd “party dress”, I’d definitely consider these.

If it has a sash, I’m game.

One word: pockets.

So floaty, and it has great little rosettes on the bodice!

That bateau neckline! And the lace!

And finally, my favorite.
Look at that hemline! The layering! :sigh:
It reminds me of my Cossette, complete with button detailing down the back.
(Maybe I can convince Mr. FF that I need another dress? I kid, I kid.)

Are you wearing the same dress from your ceremony to the reception, or are you switching it up?

We’re throwing a second, more casual reception when we get back from our honeymoon, so I’m thinking about buying a “reception dress” for that party that I might happen to slip into for the last hour or two of our first fancy reception so that I can boogey down. That second to last one makes me swoon with all of the lace.

Oh man! The lady at the bridal salon said, “There’s no way you need a second dress. It would be a shame not to wear this beautiful dress all night.”

Or so I thought- after lugging around my dress visiting with all of our guests at each table and busting a few dance moves with my hubby- I was HOT. Someone even came by and gave me a hug and said, “Oh, you’re kinda sweaty.”

LOL- really?

That was the last straw and I went back to our room and changed into my zebra cocktail dress. It still worked, since I was able to party and dance the night away like I wanted to!

It was great wearing the same dress through the whole day and evening, but I was CRAZY hot during the reception…my dress felt so heavy (and, compared to most, is pretty lightweight) and restrictive…I have to wonder if I could do it all again, would I get a reception dress? I’m not sure. I love the pictures of me dancing in my dress.

Oh, AND - I had to change into flats for the majority of the receptions (blisters were killing me!). Because of this the dress was a little too long and I just kept on stepping on it and slipping around…I’m shocked that I didn’t fall on my bee-hind! :)

Those are really cute! Great suggestions for 2nd dresses or even for less formal weddings Ms. FF!!

i also love Seinfeld! Was she dancing to the song “Brick House” or “Witchy Woman”? I think Elaine said her song was “Witchy Woman!”..lol!

I’ve definitely thought about getting a reception dress (any excuse to buy a new dress!) but after thinking about it, I love my wedding dress so much and I only get to wear it once, so I’m going to be wearing it allllll night (seriously, I may show up to the brunch the next morning still in it…)

i like the first and last ones. can you have these dyed afterwards? because then it would become the ultimate party dress! that you can wear again and again!

i don’t plan on buying a second dress. we’re hoping to have a casual relaxed feel for our wedding and i’ll be looking for a gown to go with that, meaning no heavy dresses and no need to change. yay!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve drooled over POB’s reception dresses! So much so that I decided to go try some on, convinced I was a two-dress girl. I actually ended up buying one of their BM dresses, which came in white as my reception dress, and several months before the wedding, I decided the BM dress was my wedding dress. I think part of me always knew I wasn’t in love with the gown I had purchased first. And on the wedding day, oh my gosh, I felt awesome and so comfy in my short POB dress :)

So I was really happy to see this post :)

I think all of those would be amazing primary dresses. I know my mom would kill me if I took my dress off at the reception, but I’m thinking about doing an after party, so will get a second dress for that. But not for priscilla of boston prices!

I’m totally in love with the second one from the bottom. The lace covering around the neck gives it kind of a vintage flair. If I hadn’t already been, there, done that, (and had 4 dresses in my closet to prove that I’m not the best at making decisions…) I’d be all over that beauty!!

While I was shopping for gowns, we went to Priscilla of Boston, and I tried on the short dress Mageve from the Reverie line(http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=1000&sfid=50954&f=). Loved, loved it! I was considering it for the Rehearsal Dinner, but I’d rather spend the $1200+ on other things. I still look at it longingly from time to time.

No, with mom making the dress, I’ll want to wear it as much as I can, but those are some lovely options for those that want one.

Those are adorable dress options. I wore the same dress for both and it worked out okay. My bustle broke, so that did make dancing kind of hard, but I just slung my train over my shoulder and got down anyway. ;)

I love the pockets - they make me so happy! I definitely plan on doing a reception dress - but I don’t want to change out of my wedding dress right away!

I am in LOVE with that first one. That hem is just amazing. I love the idea of a second dress for the reception after I make my entrance in my wedding dress, but I’m not sure how that would work.

I LOVE the second and fourth ones! That fourth one–I totally would’ve worn as my main wedding dress if I could’ve afforded it!

I love short dresses! I hope I could make another dress, but I put already so much work into mine that I want to use it for as long as I can :)
