Anyways, for the sake of my sanity and in an attempt to be (somewhat) organized, I’m making a list of all the DIY projects I hope (emphasis on the word hope) to complete before June.
1. Chuppah- This is a tent-like structure that couples stand under during the ceremony in Jewish weddings. There is a lot of freedom in the design of the Chuppah, which is good since we’re not really sure what we want to do. I’m thinking simple, rustic wood poles and a beautiful piece of lace, maybe with some decorative flowers along the front. Something like this, only with lace:
2. Programs - Again, simple and country, without too much fuss or flair. Here’s what I’m hoping to do:

Favors - Although I know edible favors are a popular choice, I’m thinking of filling little, clear glass vases with a few sprigs of dried flowers (lavender maybe?) and tying a bow around the vase, using yellow or blue “rustic ribbon”. I also plan on ordering favor tags in our colors, with the wedding date on one side. The favors will be arranged at each place setting on the tables, thus saving me some table decor worries! I haven’t been able to find a true inspiration picture yet but here’s what I want the vases to look like—use your imagination for the rest:
4. Ceremony Decor- This will most likely include aisle decorations, for which I’m envisioning shepherd’s hooks with hanging glass lanterns filled with flowers. Or maybe paper pomanders. Or Martha Stewart’s paper circle thingies. Or fabric bunting flags. Or some other beautiful DIY I have yet to stumble upon. Clearly I am undecided on this one.
5. Escort Cards- I’m not sure how I want to display them, but I feel confident I can make the actual cards. I want something very simple and pretty, nothing too complicated. I’m trying to decide between displaying them hanging on rope, pinned with clothespins, or pinning the cards up on a corkboard covered in fabric. Here’s an example of each that I love:
These cards even have yellow on them, one of our wedding colors!

Those are the 5 main projects that I am the most excited about and will make sure to find the time to complete. There are several other ideas floating around in my head that I haven’t given that much thought to. Decorated flip flops in a cute basket, a card box or decorated birdcage, table numbers, and menus are all on the list, as well…
Let the crafting insanity begin! What’s your DIY list looking like? Anyone else feeling slightly overwhelmed?

Our DIY list is ridiculous, but strangely, I’m currently in this calm “Oh, the wedding is MONTHS away! There’s plenty of time for EVERYTHING!” mode. I suspect this kind of thinking will come back to get me:)
You’re projects look amazing! I just wonder how guests will bring the vases home? Maybe a bag/wrap? Good luck!

Just yesterday we caved and passed the chuppah off to our florist. I’ve seen some really gorgeous DIY chuppahs, but neither my fiance or I have any real construction skills. I’d hate for the whole thing to come tumbling down on our heads because we’d failed to secure the legs properly or something. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how your chuppah progresses. Your inspiration pic is lovely!

i did 8 diys, which took a while, but were worth it.
it’s a long, long list. that keeps getting longer with all the awesome ideas i’ve been seeing lately!
We were going to make our own chuppah. I wanted the poles to be birch branches, and then we would drape some sort of white linen cloth across the top. Imaging my surprise when we walked into our first meeting with our florist… and there was our chuppah! It turns out she has the exact birch tree chuppah that we were imagining, all ready to rent (for a small fee of course). We do need to provide the fabric still, but that should be pretty easy!
I have yet to make a formal list. I’m scared. Your items all look great.
I’m too scared to make a list too. I like pretending like it’s all going to do it itself. :p
My DIY list is very large. : D There’s all the paper products (STDs, invites & RSVPs, programs, and thank-you notes), the wedding cupcakes (and the accompanying single-tier layer cake and cupcake tower), picnic blankets and napkins (most of this will just be cutting and hemming, thank God), our ceremony program and arranging all the songs in our playlist for the reception & ceremony, making the soup and salads for the picnic and carting all the sandwich-making materials to the site, and of course any decorations. So…basically everything! LOL. Plus we’ll be planning a move, so that should be fun. : p
That’s a very doable list with all the time you still have! Can’t wait to see how they turn out!
That’s a nice list of DIY to-dos! I’m sure it’s alot but it seems like you’ve got it under control (for now)!
It sounds good, but I don’t like the style. So when I do it, I shall have a plan and design .
I have a lot of DIY, too — and like @Miss Snow, I am in the mindset that I have tons and tons of time to get everything done. Um, not so much…better get started!
haha your post title cracked me up…love that movie. great list, i have done all of those DIYs thus far (besides chuppah) and a few more, as long as you have patience, it will be fine =D
