Headband

October 29th, 2009 @ 5:31 pm by Miss Frozen Yogurt

Remember when I said I wanted to wear a hair flower? Well, I lied. Okay, I didn’t really lie, but I’m having a hard time keeping my eyes away from all the latest headband eye candy out there.

See, two things really did me in. First was watching Say Yes to the Dress. I mean, Randy pulls out all of these amazing things, and I just nod along and add new items to my wish list. Well, on a recent episode (I have no idea if it was the most recent one or not, I just set my DVR to record it whenever it’s on), he pulled out this amazing headband that was reminiscent of the 1920s prohibition era. It was sparkly, it had ribbon, it was gorgeous. I put it in the back of my mind though, because I had already decided on a hair flower.

Then earlier this week, Chelsea from Oh My Deer posted more amazing headbands from her Etsy shop on Weddingbee PRO! I was smitten.

So what did I do? I ran to Google and started searching for my very own headband. Just to look though, you know, not to buy. I’m wearing a hair flower, remember? :)

Here’s what I found:

This changes a lot. Not that I’ve bought a hair flower yet, but I was trying to incorporate it into my hairstyle choices. Now I’m thinking of taking both items to a hair trial and seeing what I like best.

What would you do?

THey’re both cute options!!! I actually had the best of both worlds because I had a headband that had flowers on it. :)

I love headbands! I think they may end up being the new hair flower.

Oh man, I love them all! I’d probably do the same thing and take both. You just never know what looks good with your intended ‘do.

I honestly really love the headbands, I think they add more to a hairstyle and show from a front view of you, whereas the hair flower tends to only show from a side or back view…Not that I don’t love hair flowers too (bridal blasphemy not to!) but I am really diggin the headbands right now…

I’ve been wanting a headband so badly! But I’m not sure how it will look with my bandeau birdcage. I’ll probably end up with a flower or nothing.

Yes, definitely both. I saw a gorgeous flower headband at Anthropologie a couple weekends ago, but it was $42 and sort of flimsy looking - like I’d lose a flower before I got through the ceremony.

Do headbands ever hurt your head though? I often get a headache after half an hour!

@jduck84: Yeah, they do. I was thinking of going the ribbon route so hopefully that won’t be an issue. I have one headband I can’t ever wear for more than an hour because it hurts too much.

When I bought my dress at Kleinfelds they had me try on one of the ribbon with jewels headbands and while it was super fun and adorable, just not so me (plus it was over $300). I do think the ribbon one would be the way to go if they hurt your head.

I would totally go with the headband. Have you seen the ones by Ban.do? They rock and they look very prohibition era! I’m in love with the one with bows. sigh.

I love the look of the headbands, but they always make the area behind my ears hurt.

I would definitely take both to your trial hair appointment and see what you like best. Your hairstylist may have tips on what works best with what hair style you’re wanting. Good luck!

I saw that same episode and I’m going to call the store tomorrow and find out who the headband was made by. I know the episode was called ‘Plan B’ and the bride’s name was Sarah so hopefully they don’t think I’m too crazy. I love the ribbon headband look!

Yes, take both. I’m loving the headband inspiration, though. Last week on Gossip Girl there was a prohibition era party, and all the girls were wearing awesome headbands like these–love it!

take both / find some sequinned ribbon that resembles the band and try it out.
sometimes stuff looks better on others than we envision it on ourselves :)

I think the headband options are beautiful. But I agree with the others that you can wear both. I wore two sets of headwear because I loved the idea of wearing a hat and a headband. It’s not everyday you can get away with that sort of thing ;)

I have been searching for that headband you are talking about on Say Yes to the Dress (even though i am sure it is rediculously expensive). I LOVE it!

@emilymarie: Definitely good to know! I might just do the same. :)
@Mrs. Mouse: I saw that episode too! Loved it!
@Mrs. Lightning: Definitely true! The only day I could get away with it all is my wedding day. :)

I love these headbands almost as much as I love the hair flower…too many decisions, but that last one is absolutely beautiful!

The last one is so wonderful! And Lightning is right, who says you can’t be a two hair accent bride?

I like when people with curly-ish hair wear it up and kind of wrap a ribbon abround it. I’m thinking renassaince fair w/out being hokey and costumey. like a double-triple headband. Anyone know what i’m talking about?

One for the ceremony, one for the reception! And one for formal photos, and one for informal photos! And one for pre-wedding events, and one for post-wedding events! And a special one for the cake-cutting, and the first dance, and the last dance…

I love love love beaded headbands/hair pieces. Thankfully, I have a great friend that does amazing beadwork. She does custom designs for all sorts of things, rings, necklaces, bracelets.

I am going to ask her to make my headband. I would much rather than than a tiara :)
