Miss Pretzel's Picture
Miss Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I was born and raised in New Hampshire, went to undergrad and grad school at Purdue University in Indiana, had my career take me to Wisconsin, Atlanta, and then finally settled in Seattle. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. We love Chuck Taylor All Stars, holding hands, clever t-shirts, bacon, KEXP Radio, craft beer, buying local, cooking from scratch, gardening, mastering our new Gocco, and of course, each other. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Miss Pretzel

Kodachrome Wedding

October 29th, 2009 @ 10:58 am by Miss Pretzel

Mama P says I was born in the wrong era. Perhaps she is right. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the music of the 1980s and the 1990s, but I have a deep love for the music of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Simon and Gar, CCR, the Beatles, and Janis Joplin played in the Pretzel car all the time growing up. My favorite song is Kodachrome by Simon and Garfunkel. I soon discovered that Mr Pretzel shares my love of this song. We love to cue it up on the iPod and sing like idiots. To us, the song embodies fun, vivid color.

When we started to select our color palette, I had a hard time eliminating colors. My favorite color is turquoise/aqua. But I am also partial to green, bright pink, and orange. With the exception of orange (it makes me look ill), I wear the other colors a lot. As I struggled to pick one or two colors, Mr Pretzel solved my problem. Use them all! Duhhh… why didn’t I think of that? We started to refer to our wedding as a Kodachrome wedding, and our vision of it started to come together. Check out our inspiration board:

Cupcake toppers; Birdcage Veil; Pew Lanterns; Dress; Lights; Amore Studios; Dahlias; Paris Hilton Spelled; Converse All-Stars

Are you limiting your color palette to one or two colors? How has music influenced your wedding decisions?

Love your colors! I feel like bright is starting to make a tiny comeback. Our colors ended up being yellow, orange, green and red. I loved how bright everything looked, it made me feel so cheerful!

O0oh, very pretty! We also have quite a few colors, but it’s more of a gradient cool-palette. Purples, pinks, greys, and dusty aquas!

I love your colors! We’re having trouble choosing as well, and may end up with something similar.

That looks like a lot of fun!! We’re doing some similar colors in different tones - a rich magenta/purple, burnt orange, apple green, dark brown/black and ivory. I LOVE color and think it makes things so much fun!

@Miss Pretzel: I know. I think he’s pretty on board since we’re having LBD bridesmaids and black tuxes for the guys. I can’t go too crazy with that.

Here’re our colors:

Plus now like a plum/fuchsia and a red/hot pink (from dahlias, peonies, and poppies… lol)

I heart color, it’s nice to see somebody else go bananas crazy with it. :p

I love this theme! It is best to either go classic or all out with the colors. You did not go over the top yet you made the colors pop. Well done

Love it love it love it! I can never pick just one color and it’s great that you’ve termed it “Kodachrome” wedding - and @fifty- love the technicolor wedding!
I prefer to refer to ours as “a mess” haha. It’ll come together one day - Pretzel, your inspiration board has officially inspired me!

Fabulous! I’m so glad to see bright making a comeback! We’re sticking close to two tones for the wedding - royal blue and lime green - but you can be sure that yellow, bright blue, dark green, and hints of orange will be found all over the place. Just two colors? No thank you :)

The first 3 colors on your palette are our wedding colors! Everyone thinks I’m crazy for putting them together and don’t think they’ll go together at all. I’ll have to show them this post! :o)

My grandma once told me that multicolor wedding were really “in” during the 1950′–her bridesmaids wore five different pastel colored dresses! And that dress in your inspiration board looks so 50’s. Love it!

My whole wedding was themed around the very same music! When I hear it a warm fuzzy feeling develops in my chest. I love me some color too but I just couldn’t decide so went with gray, black and white instead. Love your inspiration board too

I KNOW I was born in the wrong era. I was once asked at a pageant interview which era I would pick to be born in and I said the same thing as this post and the reason was just for the music! Either that or the times of the big fancy dresses in England. Either one would do. :)

Btw, love your theme!
