Miss Ramen's Picture
Miss Ramen, Phoenix Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Industrial Designer Engagement Date: January 3, 2009 Wedding Date: December 2009 Venue: Phoenix Art Museum About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.
About Miss Ramen

A Sweet Shower of Love

October 30th, 2009 @ 9:26 am by Miss Ramen

I know, I know, I’ve been a bad bee. I put off blogging to focus on my last couple of exams/projects for school… and then my laptop DIED. It was terrible - but one of my AWESOME classmates was able to save allllllll of my files/photos/wedding stuff! Whew! pleased01 I was thisclose to losing EVERYTHING. But now I’m back - on my new baby netbook (my early wedding/Christmas present from the ever-amazing Mr. Ramen).

To make up for my lack of posts, be prepared for LOTS of pictures from my shower!!! Remember those adorable blue+red shower invites I received a while back? My bridesmaids, especially Sister Ramen (my MOH) and Cousin Fishcake put TONS and TONS of work (staying up until 5AM the morning of!) into making my shower the BEST SHOWER EVAR! No really. It was that amazing… need proof?

my super cute and super awesome BMs (L to R: BM Dancing Queen, BM/Cousin Fishcake, MOH/Sister Ramen, moi, BM Crazy Giggles, and BM Cooking Mama)

October 09 004

I was told to act surprised - when I had arrived, they weren’t ready, so I was exiled upstairs to wait until they were ready for the big reveal…

October 09 007

Super cute decor! One of my good friends from college let us use her condo for the shower, even though she wasn’t able to come to the shower. The place is gorgeous on its own, but Sister Ramen did a PHENOMENAL job in planning and executing the decor, which included dyed coffee filter garlands, pink and red dahlias, and cute white vases… and yes, that is the overwhelmingly generous stash of gifts surrounding the fireplace!

October 09 008

The spread! Can you believe how much scrumptious food they prepared??? And now for some good details on this yummy food…

October 09 011

An assortment of different kinds of bruschetta (this is a Ramen obsession - one of our fave Phoenix eateries is Postino, which is known for its wine selection and bruschetta spread!). Let’s take some time to notice the ADORABLE wooden forks! I love wooden utensils, so I was overjoyed that they were included in my shower.

pleased01

October 09 012

There were 7 different varieties: strawberry+goat cheese+arugula, chicken+feta+sun dried tomato, prosciutto+fig+mascarpone, smoked salmon+cream cheese, apple+brie+walnuts, tomato+mozzarella+basil, chicken+feta+pesto. YUMMMMMMM!

October 09 030

The prosciutto+fig jam+mascarpone was the favorite of the day. YUM! the girls made cute little tags for all of the foods - I loved it!

October 09 010

October 09 016

The beverage station, where they had mimosas and “Honey Punch” - sparkling berry water + pink lemonade + strawberries, AND PINK STRAWS!!! So cute!

October 09 015

Here I am, helping myself to some AWESOME bruschetta. Of course, I had to try one of each. Of course. I was also trying hard not to drool on the food.

October 09 038

Doesn’t that look so good? There were so many leftovers, Sister Ramen and Cousin Fishcake and I ate bruschetta for the next 2 days! And again - look at those awesome forks!

October 09 020

My fellow future optometrist girlies from school enjoying the good eats…

October 09 067

Not to mention the SECOND spread of desserts! Different kinds of yummy breads, a trifle, fruit skewers, and carrot cake! I love carrot cake! Annnnnd….

October 09 023

Red Velvet Whoopie Pies!!!

October 09 006

October 09 055

Favors: Homemade strawberry jam! I can’t believe they made all of this jam! BM Crazy Giggles actually hand-wrote each tag. Isn’t that crazy?!?!?! It’s like a font.

Now for games: BM Crazy Giggles was actually in charge of games. My only requests were that the games weren’t all about me (how well do you know the bride trivia, etc.) and weren’t wasteful (no TP bride for me!). She did an excellent job coming up with some really cute games (even though we didn’t get to the “Pin the Veil on the Bride” game).

October 09 044

October 09 045

We played the “How Well Do They Know Each Other” Game. BM Crazy Giggles had Mr. Ramen taped videos of Mr. Ramen answering the questions. She then had a friend help her put together an awesome DVD that would first put up the question, and then show the video of his answer. We usually do really well at these types of games, but I think Mr. R got a little tired and started making up some really ridiculous answers - as you can see from my expression. For example, he said my fave book was Green Eggs and Ham because I liked to cook for him. Uhhhhhhhhh. OK.

October 09 048

October 09 070

October 09 068

The second game was a creative one - where all of the guests were given some Play Doh and told to make a sculpture of me on the wedding day. Here’s the winning sculpture - my super artsy friend from school was the winner. For whatever reason, some of my friends seem to be obsessed with my boobage - so most of the sculptures had extraordinarily large knockers. I swear mine aren’t THAT huge. Either way, this game was super hilarious, especially just seeing everyone’s interpretations and artistry. Another girlfriend even went into the detail of sculpting one of my manzanita trees!

October 09 069

As prizes, they gave out some cute heart-shaped rice paddles.

Next, it was time for gifts! I was seriously overwhelmed with the love and generosity from everyone - one of my dear cousins drove all the way down from SF for my shower, and brought with her gifts from different family members who weren’t able to come. So sweet!!!

October 09 074

This was actually one of my favorite presents. I was showered with a ton of sweet stuff off of our registry (panini grill, baking pans, dessert cups, punch bowl - I think my friends are trying to get me to throw a party….), but I really didn’t think anyone would get me the OXO storage boxes!!! I’m a huuuuge organization freak and spend a lot of time and $$ organizing things. So I was suuuuper excited about this gift from my grandma, aunt, and cousin. YAY for my future organized pantry!!!

October 09 073

Of COURSE, I got a ton of lingerie (VS really benefited from my shower) - 2 of my fave pieces were from Sister Ramen and Cousin Fishcake. The packaging for one box was really cute - when I opened the box, there was a ribbon with a tag that read “pull me!” and all of the bras and panties/thongs were tied together, like a long string. It was such a cute idea and it was so fun to open! (BTW - has anyone else noticed that some lingerie that doesn’t look that cute in the box actually ends up being the cutest on, and vice versa?)

October 09 075

Most of my awesome shower guests

Thanks for making my shower so incredible, friends!!! I had friends from all over coming to my shower, so I felt especially blessed!

October 09 013

With Cousin New-Wifey + Cousin Fishcake: Thanks for coming all the way from SF for me!!!

October 09 036

The best MOH ever. Seriously. She outdid herself… and is now planning a second shower for me in Phoenix with my mom! Crazy! She’s the bestest.

October 09 078

And a cutesy little last pictures with almost all of my BMs - thanks girls for all of your love and the hard work that went into throwing me an AMAZING shower!!!!

Did your shower exceed any and all possible expectations?

Hi,
The pictures are gorgeous and it looks like so much fun! Your sister did an amazing job!
And I’m so sorry if this sounds rude, (I really hope not,) but I notice that out of your big group of friends, (and some from school,) they’re all asian! Do you have ties to any other ethnicities / cultures?

Thanks.

The playdoh game is one for the books! Adorable and fun!

We did cookie decorating at my FSIL’s shower. Wedding dress cookies with white frosting, but we had different colors of frosting bags, tips, embellishments, etc…

Everyone had a cookie and started decorating, when the timer went off (2 min) or the bride-to-be said so, everyone moved. It was HILARIOUS and the cookies turned out hysterical. Hello 80’s! But it was definitely a good time.

My laptop died too, Dell is working on my new one, but I don’t get it until a little over a week before the wedding. I miss my photoshop. Anyway, your shower was lovely and your MOH was incredibly thoughtful.

@Kate: Excuse me if this sounds really rude, but i hope you understand that “asian” is not one culture or ethnicity. There are many types of “asian” with different cultures, beliefs, and traditions. To name a few, there’s cambodian, chinese, korean, japanese, hmong, vietnamese, pacific islanders, indians, etc. and they shouldn’t all be lumped into one category of “Asian”. I find it offensive that you ask if Miss Ramen has ties to any other ethnicities/cultures. I’m sure you’re just curious, but just know that just because someone has yellow-toned skin and almond shaped eyes does that mean they are the same ethnicity and culture. Would you lump someone who’s Australian as “white?” or someone German? or French? That’s what you’re doing with “Asians”. Besides, does it even matter? We’re here to read about the cool planning of a wedding with tons of DIY tips and sharing happy moments with the Bees. Maybe Miss Ramen’s friends of more OBVIOUS different ethnicities weren’t able to make it or weren’t in the area of her shower. Miss Ramen, I’m sorry if I’ve upset you with my reply, please feel free to delete my post. I just get very sensitive with racial issues and ignorance.
