Mrs. Rainbow's Picture
Mrs. Rainbow, Tampa Age and Occupation: 22, Makeup Artist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Electrical Engineer/Programmer Engagement Date: November 27, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Gamble Plantation About Me: I'm a quirky (and slightly Type-A) freelance makeup artist who was born in Washington State, raised in Alabama, and now living with my one and only in sunny Florida. I'm fashion and beauty obsessed, and have recently discovered my inner domestic diva extraordinaire. I'm a wannabe chef, decorating addict, and trying desperately to be as crafty as possible---albeit only with a glue gun. I'm hopelessly in love with my fiance, and all things sparkly and feathery. Despite the glittery exterior, I'm a total hippie on the inside. When I'm not making up pretty faces, I love doing what I can to help people, animals, and the environment. Someday the FI and I will change the world, but first we're tackling our modern-vintage-Marie-Antoinette-meets-Alice-in-Wonderland inspired wedding. I just can't wait to be Mrs. Rainbow!
About Mrs. Rainbow

Spiffy

October 30th, 2009 @ 12:50 pm by Mrs. Rainbow

That’s how I envision Mr. Rainbow on our wedding day. Not too stuffy or stiff, just relaxed, comfortable, and handsome. Spiffy, if you will. To be honest, although we had this “spiffy” vision, we hadn’t really thought about specific menswear all that much. We just figured we’d rent something from Men’s Wearhouse so all the guys could match and be done with it. That was until we decided not to have a wedding party, and the whole wide world of menswear opened its pearly gates to us. While roaming around them there internets with my BFF, Google, I came across Mr. Brad Pitt (Okay, maybe I specifically searched for Brad Pitt, but… let’s keep that between me and you Spiffy : wedding menswear Winky06 winky06) rocking this amazing grey suit:

Oh, Bradley… anyway! Focus, Rainbow, focus! Back to the task at hand.

Ever since my virtual run-in with Brad, I’ve been absolutely stuck on the idea of Mr. R wearing a grey suit. They are so fresh and stylish. To further my investigation of the grey suit, I hit J.Crew, of course. Check this out:

Oh my vest! I love! I’m so in love! It just oozes spiff, doesn’t it? The rolled up sleeves and vest combo just says, “Yeah, I’m cool, I’m calm, what’s up?” It might be a little too informal for our 6PM ceremony, though. ‘Oh, well,’ I thought, ‘I’ll make grey work somehow.’

Mmhmm, yeah. Word of advice ladies, maybe consult with your groom before you decide on his wardrobe. Little did I know, Mr. Rainbow was not feeling the grey. He said he always pictured himself in black, and felt that he would look better in black.

Insert my crushed heart here. Even on the ever-fabulous Chuck Bass, black, while classic, felt so stark when compared to the cool, fresh grey palette that I had my heart set on. How about a compromise? I see your Chuck Bass and raise you a Nate Archibald (can you tell I have a Gossip Girl addiction?):

So, Nate here may be wearing navy pants and a blue shirt, but sub that for black pants and a white shirt and what do you get? I’ll tell you what you get. You get perfection! Fortunately for me and my sanity, Mr. R is definitely into this look. We’ve yet to road test any actual suits, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this combo wins in the end.

Did you preemptively go suit shopping sans man only to find out that he wasn’t into what you picked? Who got their way? You, him, or did you compromise?

This post had some serious eye-candy! Oh yeah, I definitely picked out the engagement shoot outfit for Mr. Hammy, only to find out he didn’t want anything like it. What we ended up picking worked much better. Score one for the Mr.

Mr. Taffy has a grey suit that I love!!! He ended up wearing a tuxedo for our wedding though. I love them both!

My honey understands that my taste is much better than his. He tends to take my advice/opinion on all things fashion - including our wedding. I have also chosen a grey suit and he loves the idea (as does my father, who will be in a matching suit). I lucked out!
However, if he had expressed the desire to wear something other than what I envisioned, I would attempt to be open-minded…maybe. ;)

Since when do men think they can dress themselves, anyway?!? ;) Just kidding, of course! But my dude is the same way. I told him I wasn’t into the idea of tuxes, thinking he’d be happy about that, but he WANTS to wear a tux. WTH?

Mr Pretzel definitely has ideas of what he wants to wear, thankfully we’re on the same page… something akin to the grey pants/vest w rolled up sleeves. I hate tuxes so that was out pretty quick/

Brad Pitt would look more stunning in men’s tungsten wedding bands.

I always tell my fiance that he needs more Nate Archibald clothes- I probably don’t hide my Chase Crawford crush very well- haha.

My fiance is very fashion-conscious, so I have left it entirely up to him what he wears. I know he wants my opinion on what he picks of course, but I trust his taste.

If your fiance is going to buy a suit, just make sure you find a good tailor who is up with the fashion trends. Even a $200 suit can look amazing when it’s altered the right way. The reason all the GG guys always look hot is because EVERYTHING they wear on that show fits them like a glove. A slimmer cut shirt can make all the difference in a suit.

@Miss Hamster: *sigh* I know, they make it so hard to resist! ;)

@tea: Lucky you! I’ve been with Mr. R for almost 2 and a half years now, and I’m still trying to wear him down on the wardrobe issue. I love to get dressed and look cute and it totally bums me out that he’s not exactly the most snazzy dresser on the planet. He hate spending money on clothes, but I mean.. DANG! Look at your wardrobe! It is NECESSARY! …Men… I tell ya…

@dookie32: I’m so jealous of you ladies and your fashionable men! *sob*!

Who knew that grooms actually cared about what they wear. They certainly don’t seem to on a dail basis. Mr. MB let me push grey on him, but he wanted a slim cut and pin stripes. That’s what he got.

Yeah I wish my fi wanted gray but he wants black. It is more formal looking so I’m not complaining

Oh how I love the grey suits. I’m trying to get my fiance to go for the vest idea too, but he’s not really into it. I LOVE the look though. :)

He wanted a grey suit at first. But then he went on a suit-buying-spree and realized he looked better in his navy and black suits than his grey one, which washed him out a little. I would have him do plenty of try-ons to see what really looks best on him! : )
